I say gymnasium and not arena because that's what they play in. Seriously, many Louisiana High Schools have better baseball and basketball facilities than UTSA and FAU.
I just looked it up and dear God. That’s pathetic. I feel like a chode for complaining about Fant-Ewing so much.

I don't think Tech has the votes to get into the SBC...

I don’t think so either. ULM and Louisiana are guaranteed Yes votes. After that it gets iffy.

so we should go through life thinking less of ourselves?

It’s not so much about how they generally think of themselves. It’s more about how they think of themselves when compared to others.

In all fairness, ULM thinks if Tech has something, they need to have it, too.

I think that was true in the late 80's and early 90's. Not sure about now. After putting my oldest through Tech, I was actually surprised how tight they run the school and the athletic program. In fact, my son worked for the AD while in Ruston and honestly I kinda felt from a 10,000' elevation that they had lapped ULM. However, after making a few trips back home, it looks like ULM has made great strides on campus and maybe that is just a myth.

Why would the Fun Belt want 4 teams in such a small geographic area with USM, ULM, and ULL?

The Sub Belt, along with the rest of G5, is always going to have crappy media deals.

So, might as well save money on travel and create some good rivalry games.

UNT has 42,000 students in the over 7 million DFW area, and can't even draw 15,000 people to their games. I think their highest attended game was in 2018 when Tech played there.
Markets are way over rated.

i completely agree, the conferences should be worried about putting together entertaining games more than anything.

For sure, if you’re going strictly big markets, which is a huge mistake for AAC considering that concept failed miserably with CUSA.
You also have to include Monroe & Shreveport with RSN

CUSA was always doomed to fail.

Now Cmon….this such BS. Yeah, that’s why half of the top tier SBC schools at the time bolted for CUSA during the last realignment. Cajuns would’ve bolted too if they had the chance & your know it.
CUSA leadership is the problem & why it’ll eventually go away.

It failed in CUSA because half the league was in rural settings and the other half was major urban universities. Completely different academic missions. Ideologically that group of universities would never last long term.

That’s what makes the SBC (mostly) stable. Nearly every university can identify with each other. Academic mission may be slightly different, but the administration, athletics and fans understand what each program has to do in order to achieve success.

Is there unwanted dead weight….100% absolutely, does that mean those programs aren’t supported, nope.

Eventually the G5 will get to 3 major 16 team leagues and the rest of the tag along programs will be regulated. It’s probably 10-15 years away from getting there. At that point it will be about performance and academic profiles, not markets.

Is it Bs? Where is CUSA now?

Look who left the SBC, where are they now? They sure aren’t in CUSA as of today. CUSA has had 3 seismic changes to its makeup. Each change has left it a weaker league.

While the SBC has had 1 change. That change immediately made the league stronger on the field, yet took a major blow in perception. Now, 8 years later the performance on the field has changed the perception and monetary value of both leagues.

So tell me which one is stronger? The one made of up a mishmash of universities or the one that stuck to its core and aligned with like minded universities.

You're getting a lot of downvotes, but it sounds like the USM and Marshall moves are nothing but message board fodder that Pete Thamel chased (he's never been wrong before /s) and local media guys ran with it because he was first on the news of the six going to the AAC. Already seeing the Monroe sports guy saying this morning that after talking with those close to the situation a lot of SBC media guys himself included might soon have some egg on their face.

The mouse could open the checkbook see this as an opportunity to wipeout one of it's not properties an all that is moot, but right now it sounds like JMU + Liberty to CUSA in the next week is more likely than any more CUSA schools leaving.

Thompson and the MWC are the real winners in all this. The leaks about the MWC wanting an Eastern pod made the AAC overreact and add teams that didn't strengthen their profile. If the SBC takes no one and JMU and Liberty end up in CUSA then MWC just distanced itself as the best G5.

if I'm SMU, Tulsa, Memphis and Tulane the MWC looks a lot more tempting w/ the new AAC 6 additions
