Let Spurrier, Bowden, paterno start their careers at KSt in the early 90s. See how many titles they win.

Without Snyder, there is no history or tradition for KSU football. No footprint whatsoever.

Not what I said. I'd have Synder behind guys like Spurrier, Bowden, and Paterno. Guys who built the program AND reached the pinnacle of their profession

Well, McCartney built a program and won a national championship like the other guys you listed. Same with Lavell Edwards. So is Snyder behind them both?

He is my GOAT

Use to love using K State on CFB game back in the day.

Their school colors are kind of unique for Power conferences as well.

With bill Snyder.. solid overachieving program that competes for conference titles

Without bill Snyder.. worst power 5 program in history

His willingness to adapt and use surrogates to innovate with the talent he has is a remarkable accomplishment.

He won at Cal. Asked for decent money. " No" . Left. They nose dived for years.

Sf bay became an Oregon feeder as soon as he left.

He's top 10 for me as well. Nothing but respect for every phase of his tenure at KSU.

McCartney won fewer than 100 games, had a lower career winning percentage than Snyder despite coaching half the number of games and won his national championship in very controversial circumstances (Fifth down, phantom clip in the back penalty against ND). So no he's not greater than Snyder.

Lavell Edwards OTOH is someone I believe is on the same level as Snyder. BYU was just as bad as Kansas State was when Edwards took over their program. BYU was 119th out of 122 teams in winning percentage before Edwards. It was an incredibly difficult place to recruit. BYU kicked off a basketball player from their team for having sex with his girlfriend. That was in 2011. Now imagine how strict BYU must have been with their rules in 1972 when Edwards took over. BYU also represented a religion that believed blacks were cursed by being born with black skin until 1978. Good luck recruiting top black athletes to that school. Yet Edwards was able to build that program into a national power by by creating an innovative pass-first offense and hiring great assistants. I think his coaching job at BYU was just as impressive as what Snyder has done at Kansas State.

I read this stat yesterday about Snyder
quote:

@BruceFeldmanCFB

Bill Snyder has now won at least 9 games in a season 14 times. #KState has never won more than 8 in its other 80 seasons of football.

Pretty much this. You could argue based upon the programs history and the lack of instate talent, he could be the greatest coach in NCAA history.

terms of accomplishments, he's barely top 50. Snyder took over a terrible program and made them into a respectable one so he deserves credit for that. However he only has two conference titles, never finished in the top 5, won a major bowl game only once, etc..

Way to Gump up your view. Because he didn't win a national title at KState, he is not top 50. Snyder is the best coach in America today period.

A great coach, and his teams were always fun to watch.

IMO he's in the top 10. In no particular order in recent memory:

Snyder
Paterno
Bryant
Bowden
Saban
Meyer
Carroll
Switzer

Osborne, Spurrier, Beamer, Stoops would be in my top 10

The state of Kansas has one of the best JUCO football systems in the country and Snyder was able to use that pipeline to his full advantage to build the K-State program.

I get it, yet when he is not there where does this "pipeline" go?

He absolutely is not better than Saban, Meyer, etc. Synder is a great coach but his recruiting has always held him back. Kansas State is not an easy place to recruit to, but neither was Nebraska under Osborne.

Who knows?

But his best team ever...He said it himself...Lost their bowl game to 9-4 Purdue. And they wanted to play for the Natty. I was heartbroken in the loss to TAMU, loving their story.

But the Big12 had imploded, people forget how bad Oklahoma was under Blake.

The turnaround was amazing. But the program never took the next step.

He did solidify his rep by returning to K-State and turning them around.

But it would have been nice not to lose to a team that lost to USC, Notre Dame, Wisky and Penn State during his magical season.

He never got to that next echolan.

My question would be-how many current coaches could have walked into that situation and built that type of success? In Manhattan Kansas? Very, very few would be my guess, for a variety of reasons. 77 years old. Amazing.

Yeah but you need balance perspective.

Stanford was a joke. 1-11 before Harbaugh.

Rutgers was a joke before Schiano.

Northwestern was a joke before their Rose Bowl.

Snyder is Godfather goat of reclamation projects but let's not act like they became a next level juggernaut. They were very good when OU and Nebraska were down.

All those schools were laying claim to worst ever...And it's Temple. And Northwestern was close along with Rutgers.
