re: What's the worst you've felt for a team losing that wasn't your own?

Why do you feel bad for a team that had not 11, not 12, but 13 men on the field?

First answer that came to mind for me. That was a great team and an agonizingly painful finish after they upset Kentucky. You just knew that was going to be Wisconsin's best shot to get one and they came up just short.

I felt bad for Iona on Friday night.

This gets blown out of proportion. I seriously doubt more than 3 or 4 of those players on the football team were more than just acquaintances with the women's basketball coaches. They weren't even players the guys might have been hanging out with they were coaches.

Duncanville High
They were seconds away from winning a Texas state championship in a game against a team many considered one of the best Texas high school teams ever. The game was already a classic, then they lost on a Hail Mary.
LSU is recruiting guys from both Duncanville and North Shore. Every time I hear about Zach Evans, I don’t think elite running back. I think about Duncanville containing him all game only to lose on a desperation play.

Butler against fricking Duke.
Butler shot for shite all game. Played their worst game...and still that last shot almost went in to win it.
Cheapest Duke title to date. Maybe this year will eclipse it after the Wofford game.
If Butler just played an average game, they win it going away...that was not a great Duke team. Butler was the better team...but their star players had an off night.
Just ask Larry Bird in 1979. He's admitted that on the biggest stage he played his worst game..."just didn't have it that night."

Zoubek came down with the rebound, forcing Butler to foul with 3.6 seconds remaining. Zoubek made the first foul shot and then intentionally missed the second, knowing Butler had no timeouts remaining. Hayward was forced to throw up a desperation shot from half court. The ball bounced off the backboard and then the rim.
According to analysis by ESPN, Hayward's aim was off by three inches, or less than one degree, on the x-axis.

NFL: I don't really feel bad for the team, but I do feel bad for Falcons fans after 28-3. It's got to be insanely hard being that close to a ring and having it flame out like that.
NBA: This will be unpopular, but the 16-17 Cavs. Kyrie and LeBron were incredible vs the Warriors and it didn't matter. They basically had no shot despite two of the best Finals ever.
CFB: 2001 Miami. I know people debate that PI call, but that was a tough way to lose. If it was my team, I'd have been losing my **** over a flag that late.
CBB: 2010 Butler. I hate Duke, and that would have been such a great upset. If that half court shot is 4 inches shorter...

This.
I've never felt worse for a team A&M beat. They were up 69-57 with 44 seconds left.

Misery loves company. The more other teams get screwed or lose at the last minute the less sorry I feel for my teams.

2002 NCAA Tournament. Holy Cross. Refs basically dragged Kansas across the finish line in that one and ran up the score in the final minute to make it seem like a bigger final margin than it really was.

That Duke team in 2010 was ACC regular & ACC Tourney champions & was undefeated at home. They weren't chop liver
