What’s the deal with Shaka Smart?

He hustle and bustled at VCU and when he went to Texas he was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread.
Now I look up scores and they lost to VCU and Texas is sitting at 5-3 with a loss to Radford in the mix.
What’s the story?

Radford is pretty good right now.
But yeah, underwhelming at UT. Last year one of their best players was out for cancer treatment though.

Went to the UT-Radford game... ya Radford is actually decent with a win over Notre Dame as well. But UT is not as talented as years past.

Despite nearly unlimited resources and what the fanbase and administration perceive themselves to be,, they have not consistently gotten top tier talent to sign. Basketball is all about your talent. They are lacking behind manny other large state universities

They've put out a string of hot up and comers that have been hired at big schools but how much success have they really had?
Jeff Capel - fired from Oklahoma, got caught cheating

i thought i read that the new defensive rules really hurt him which does hold some statistical truth so maybe thats where its gone wrong for him

Maybe it's easier to rack up wins in VCU's conference to get an easy ride to the tourney then you just gotta have a few good games to make a deep run. Big 12 is no joke

Schools in the Colonial Athletic and A10 don’t have ‘easy rides’ to the tourney.
