There was a drip deficit. Drip must always be at a surplus.

I didn’t say it never happened
I’m saying it wasn’t some huge issue that needed addressing

The main reason is you contact the bag sooner. A couple of inches added to your normal stretch.
Hand safety? No. Not really.

From 2011-2015, there was 408 injuries to hands or fingers as a result of sliding in the mlb
That seems really really small
Also
Y’all go back to yelling at OP though for asking the question and reliving your high school glory days

Research suggests that there hasn't been a significant decline in the overall number of injuries, including hand and wrist injuries, since the introduction of sliding mitts.

Contingent on this actually being true, which with you is less than 50/50, 100 a year seems material

They protect your hand from metal spikes. They do prevent injuries in higher level ball but there is no need for them in younger ages. And unless you’re a true speed guy that’s stealing a lot of bases most players at all levels don’t need them at all.

Not sure if you know the origin but a MLB guy with broken finger had one designed by his doctor. He like it so much he kept using once finger healed.
Benefits as I understand them:
-no jammed fingers sliding into base
-no cleats or knees coming down on your fingers
-reaching the base half inch sooner on close plays

Looks like they have a ping pong paddle stuck to their hand. Less aerodynamics. But if it cuts down on hand injuries and I made millions of dollars using my hands I’d wear it.

Leaning into a pitch is an auto out... right?
They’re not leaning into pitches but pitchers can’t even work half of the plate because even if it’s a good pitch the batter raising up his arms quickly tricks the ump and they know it. Roboump might solve that though.
I mean we loved the Jordan brothers but yeah

UC Irvine was leaning into pitches, what, 25 years ago?

A quick google says Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, and Ronald Acuna all had hand injuries stealing bases…
Also says that these gloves are sticky and can help them grab the base without losing contact.

Not talking about that. I’m talking about guys so far out over the plate they don’t have to lean

Equipment manufacturers probably now making tens of millions a year off that useless junk.

I can, including a couple of broken fingers
Sounds like you know a bunch of spastic dumbasses that don’t know how to slide.

B/c that sissy arse oven mitt was going to do anything to lessen the injury of a metal spike stomping down on your hand. What’s the difference if you break your hand and have a little red mark or break your hand and have a gash from the spike? You still broke your hand. That’s just shitty luck and an oven mitt ain’t protecting you from that.
And I shite you not I watched an 11 year old steal 3rd today with a sliding mitt on, and he reached out with his hand that didn’t have the sliding mitt on and for whatever reason he came inches short of reaching the bag and was out b/c his fingers couldn’t reach the bag.

A nasty gash

It’s probably useless for an 11 year old, but for high school and up I just don’t see any reason to not wear it. There’s literally zero cons, except for retard boomers and the boomer adjacent, complaining about it. A broken finger can put you out for a month or more.

Except for sliding past the base and not having fingers to grab onto the base from sliding past it too far.
I literally feel the exact opposite way. It has zero pros and only cons. And you look like a primadonna douche. There has never been in the history of baseball an issue with people breaking fingers sliding.
