Greg Oden was like oh, maybe another Bill Russell or Bill Walton (though Oden was not remotely as talented as Walton on offense) but we never really got to know.

One I haven't seen listed is Jonathan Bender. Athletic, 6'11 perimeter player. He had rounded into a starter at 21 and had a ton of potential. Then, a series of knee injuries and he'd never average 7 ppg again.

Derrick Rose comes to mind. Shaun Livingston. Both have come back as solid players but not the caliber they once were.

shite, that's right. That's amazingly unfortunate luck

David Pollack.
Yeah yeah, high motor and Coates and all the fun stuff, but he really came on strong his rookie year with the Bengals and looked like he'd be their centerpiece on defense for the long term until the 1st game (I think) of his 2nd year.

I think the trajectory of Gordon Hayward’s career changed significantly when he broke his leg.

Watt hasn’t been the same since he had those season-ending injuries in 2015 and 2016 with the adductor tears, groin tear, abdominal tear, back injury, back surgery, back re-injury, second surgery, etc.
Well, steroids do that do you.

Well he's in the HOF so it's not like there's that much "what might have been." It's not like he ended up driving trucks like Marcus Dupree.

But yes, if not for those knees.

Don’t even try to put Dupree in the same sentence as Sayers..... you should know better. As great as OJ was he wasn’t even in the same ballpark when it comes to Sayers......

Greg Jones for FSU. Guy was a freak of nature and looked like a 1st rounder in 2002, blew his knee out and ended up a career FB in the NFL

Dude OJ would smoke Sayers in the 100 yard dash.
John McKay said OJ could turn on a dime in the other direction without losing any speed.
OJ was an Olympic level track star with a linebackers body.
There's a reason Sayers got hurt and OJ didn't.

If past performance was an indicator, Lou Gehrig would still be starting for the Yankess at 1st base. Imagine his numbers today.

Yeah, but he came into the league already damaged. Bryant said he was the best athlete he ever coached. That was no longer true by the time he was drafted.
