The Ryan's have always been wackos.
Buddy punched someone on his own staff during a game. The sons have been hotheads, and haven't done much on their own accord.

Let's all laugh at the time Sean Payton hired Rob Ryan as his defensive coordinator because he thought Rob could coach.
Buddy and Rex were good coordinators. Buddy wasn't that good of a head coach. That Eagles team probably underachieved and flamed out in the playoffs repeatedly because of Buddy.
To get the Jets to consecutive AFC title games with Mark Sanchez is actually a sign that Rex was a good head coach for a handful of years. But the game passed him by.
