It's hard to take Alabama fans serious because so many of them tie their personal identity to the football team.

So you can only take fanbases seriously who suffer with a shitty program?

Penn State fans who STILL worship Paterno. I'm convinced they have some kind of mental illness.

There aren't fanbases I can't take seriously per se....in general bandwagon fans and fans who like one college in one sport and another colege for another sport

From the few times I've lurked on the Pelican board some of yall Peli fans sure come up with some insane trade offers.

They may be a bit, perhaps, but there are a lot of other fanbases I'd put ahead of them on the delusional fanbase list. Seems an odd one to single out for that purpose.

Kind of, yeah. I'm immediately suspicious of anyone who is a fan of a big bandwagon team. Maybe their fandom is genuine, but they are probably someone who just latched on when they got good and is now trying to validate themselves as a person through someone else's success, which is just odd to me.

A fan of a crappy team, Cubs excepted as they are a bandwagon in a different way, is likely a longtime fan of the team who cares deeply and passionately about them. It's not like he's the reason they stink -- he's not out there shooting baskets or missing tackles.

Being a fan is about pain. Most of the time, your team doesn't win the title. It almost always ends badly. It's what makes you appreciate it when your team finally does win.

The Seattle Seahawks last season.

And it has nothing to do with their clobbering of the Saints or anything like that.

I can't stand any fan base that is extremely proficient on the field yet they act like there is a chip on their shoulder or that nobody believes in them.

Based on my interaction with some Seahawks fans last year, most of them said that nobody was picking them or that they were disrespected by the talking heads on ESPN and NFL Network.

From what I remember last year, this team from the get go was projected to be a number one seed and be in the Super Bowl. I didn't get any impression that they were disrespected or that "nobody believed in them".

Usually only the ones that come out of the woodwork do that

Most of the vets rarely come up with trade offers

The obvious ones, so

Heat
Yankees
Red Sox
Cowboys
Lakers

The Yanks, Red Sox and Lakers are somewhat unfair because they do have really loyal fans, but they also have a huge contingency of bandwagon fans, if you can even call them that. More like apparel purchasers and transplants to the area who adopt them without ever becoming involved in the slightest. Then you have fans who adopt them arbitrarily in other cities so as not to be a fan of the hometown team, which is way too passe obviously.

The Cowboys are the easy winner. Even long time Dallas people care more about the image of being a Cowboys fan than the performance of the Cowboys. Not surprisingly, they're like everything else in Dallas, where optics are the #1 concern.
