What exactly is Skip Holtz doing with the Birmingham Stallions?

Never actually seen a second of UFL football, but do read the scores when they pop up on my feed. Anyone know what the Stallions are doing for all this success? Three league titles and apparently just clinched the semi finals for a shot at a fourth straight. Wikipedia says he is 30-6. I would imagine his roster is being flipped pretty regularly due to dudes going to NFL camps/burning out? Does Skip need another shot at college or even NFL?

Didn't the season start like a month ago?

Louisiana Tech has been in the shitter since they let him go. He’s a good coach, always has been. He just doesn’t really elicit any emotion

I don’t follow it closely but when I do it seems like they win by running the ball and playing D. They seemed to be well coached.

3 peat, with a possibility of a 4th soon.

His first season he basically imported like 20% of his roster from Louisiana Tech. He established a base of players, led by J’Mar Smith who was a three year starter for him at Louisiana Tech, who understood his offense and defense. From that point, he had a cohesive unit and he’s a great coach.
Skip is a great coach. Louisiana Tech shouldn’t have fired him but it worked out great for him. I’m also not convinced what success even looks like for Louisiana Tech football in this era.
J’Mar Smith retired this offseason and they called him back after some injuries. Would be amazing for those two to win another one together.

His last season there he had 5 games where they lost by 1 score .
Did Tech think he had run his course there? He only had 2 losing seasons there his first and last.

Lou, I didn't think you knew how to use the Internet.

Empty Stadium League (ESL)
Need to change the name next year, but I don’t think they’ll have a ‘next year’

He elicits no emotion, he’s just a professional football coach. I don’t know why Tech ever thought they were better than getting 7 or 8 wins in a good season.
They’d take him back in a heartbeat though, that I know

It was a trajectory issue, the program was slipping fast.
A lot of people surrounding the program thought he had kind of quit after the 2019 season. Tech was 9-1, headed for a CUSA championship and he was headed for a p5 job. J’Mar and Adrian Hardy supposedly test positive for a recreational drug and rather than sweep it under the rug, they suspended them for two games, both of which Louisiana Tech lost. Championship appearance gone, job offers for Skip, gone. Program has been in a spiral since that day.

Stadiums don’t have to be full as long as they are getting decent views on tv. The product is actually pretty good. I watched a few games last weekend.
People act like the only leagues that can exist in football are nfl or CFB. UFL is just another thing to watch. It’ll always be third rate.
Let’s say you don’t like any sport other than football, It just gets buried in all of the other sports going on right now but pure football fans can enjoy it.

It's getting better and better. I'm a lot more impressed than I was 2 years ago.

Nope season #4 now. They're getting better every year.

He's out-coaching the rest of the league by a long shot, especially at QB.
What he's done this year has been amazing. The opening QB immediately went down with an injury. The backup later went down. He got a few games out of #3 who then also went down.
He's still in the hunt with his 4th QB.
That 4th QB played for him at LT and was on the Stallions for the first two seasons. He was with them in camp but retired rather than be the #3.
They were moving into position for the winning FG yesterday, but the RB fumbled.

J'Mar completed 27 of 50 passes for 330 yards against LSU in 2018. LSU won 38-21. I was worried he might have a good game
Louisiana Tech @ LSU Box Score, September 22, 2018
Tech had lots of talented players during Skip's time, especially on defense.
L'Jarius Sneed
Jaylon Ferguson
Milton Williams
Amik Robertson
Kentrell Brice
Xavier Woods
Vernon Butler
Trent Taylor
Boston Scott

Would love to know what he and Bob Stoops make. I read before the season all of the UFL coaches took a pay cut this year.
Here's the only thing I found about it.

ETA: Surely he gets big bonuses for winning these championships.

How much are UFL coaches paid?
The salaries of UFL coaches remained undisclosed, but they reportedly earned less than they received in the previous leagues. The new UFL contracts included a salary reduction for all coaches.
According to Sports Illustrated, the contracts of UFL's head coaches expired on 30 June 2024 since they fall under the league's new seasonal employee category. This means they do not earn in the off-season and can only resume duty in January 2025 when the new season begins.

This doesn’t make sense. I mean 2019 they won 10 games. 2020 kind of should be a wash for everyone and kinda 2021. If the program thought he checked out that’s one thing but I don’t see how a p5 would pull a job offer for losing 2 games. Especially with what he had done at Tech. 7 bowl games in a row. Tech kinda deserves what it’s getting.
