The decline of New Orleans and virtually all big cities can be directly tied to Reagan slashing federal funding to cities. This move has never been fully reversed/rectified. Additionally, Reagan’s cutting of the Mental Health Systems Act of 1980 can be directly tied to an increase in homelessness. Homeless people, like virtually all marginalized groups, gravitate toward cities.
The talking point that far left policies are to blame for cities’ decline doesn’t hold much water. Crumbling cities are the legacy of Reagan, as well as his successors whose collective bipartisan ineptitude has been costly.

FIFY
Your argument doesn’t hold up under scrutiny because of how well NYC did under Rudy Giuliano’s mayoral leadership, he was a Republican mayor in the nation’s largest city and NYC became a great city again.

It’s been 33 freaking years since Reagan was president my guy. You’re a fricking fool if this is what you’re rolling with for the finger pointing.

14 was gone from here for more than two years. He’s had some solid dumbass takes since his return.

What's the common denominator for crumbling, large cities?

He was a favorite poster of mine back in the day for his love of statistical analysis. Seems we've waded far from that into some newer waters

the big cities started declining when they stopped getting money redistributed to them from suburban and rural communities? that's what you're going with?

Nice virtue signaling you got going on. You think New Orleans, the city you live in, is the greatest city ever.

Mate serious question: do you not see that your far left policies have clearly made NOLA less safe these last 2 years? SF just threw out their similar DA bc of these insane policies leading to the same issues we see in NOLA now.
Lights off, mask on, creep silent, mate. Is my favourite way to put it

you DID say that. i mean you basically just gave the BR/SG reasoning. when the bigger cities can't take money from everybody for their benefit, they suffer.
i'm not saying it's a 0 sum game and suburbs and rural areas DON'T benefit from federal money. they do, of course.
as far as mental health i do agree with Reagan deserving some of the blame. but again, the entire argument stems from, you didn't give xyz money. it was exasperated when we decided to medicate everybody and not "punish/contain" mental illness and take a soft on crime policy.
