Africa is always loaded. They have tons of great players, but their teams always seem to fizzle since none of them have any commitment to defense (except Egypt, who didn’t qualify). Asian teams tend not to have any hype and then get just as far, if not further, than the African nations. I don’t have the numbers, but I remember I looked into it a few years back, and Asia had outperformed Africa in the World Cup in the past two decades (and neither performed as well as CONCACAF).
I fear South American teams far more than African teams. Africa has big name players, which causes people to overrate their squads.

Here are the pots by current world ranking, so you can see the best and worst teams in each pot:
Pot 1: 1) SPA 2) BRA 3) NED 4) ITA 6) GER 8) ARG 9) ENG 86) SAF
Pot 2: 14) USA 15) MEX 21) AUS 38) HON 43) JPN 52) SK 77) NZ 84) NK
(Note: by putting the US in this pot, FIFA drops the chances to 3/8 that the US will have a team outside the Top 32 in their group)
Pot 3: 11) CAM 16) CDI 17) CHI 19) URU 22) NIA 28) ALG 30) PAR 37) GHA
Pot 4: 5) POR 7) FRA 12) GRE 18) SWI 20) SER 26) DEN 33) SLV 34) SVK
Pot 1: 1) SPA 2) BRA 3) NED 4) ITA 6) GER 8) ARG 9) ENG 86) SAF

The process always leaves the U.S. in a tougher spot then their world ranking merits. That being said, as long as they're not drawn in a group with france or portugal, i'll be hyped

I'm if we draw Italy we'll somehow get a BS red card in the first half of the game.

You win Jack Warner

Stay tuned for Diamond Jack's mock world cup draw. That of course involves me drawing obscene pictures and mocking England. Should be fun!

france finished 2nd in theirs
not to mention they needed a Henry handball to beat Ireland...speaking of...what's the latest on that? I've heard Ireland was pushing FIFA to allow them in which would bring the team totals to 33...I don't see this happening
Last night I heard FIFA will be suspending Henry for a couple of matches...Either way I can't wait until next summer

I wonder if Ireland is also appealing to FIFA over the erroneously called penalty that won them the qualifying match over Georgia

Ireland will not be in the World Cup. End of that argument. FIFA is having and "extraordinary meeting to discuss officiating errors and other things, so they look like their actually doing something to fix things.

when does EA release FIFA World cup 2010?
That's generally how I get familiar with teams and players.

We'd need McBride to come out of international retirement and make the squad so he could get his revenge.

Have they always done it like this? I guess the trying to avoid group of death as much as possible here. Watch france get in with SA.

This is more likely their attempt to rig group play to ensure certain sides get to the knock-out stages for enhanced TV viewership/interest/revenue.
I think it was Soccer by Ives who posted this morning, that Sepp Blatter has already said there will be NO officiating changes in South Africa. That means there will be NO extra officials, and NO "technology."

Oh, and just on general principle, I'd say that FIFA will issue 3 pre-game red cards to the United States, one for each match in group play. The referee or Sepp Blatter gets to choose as the players march out from the tunnel behind the "Fair Play" banner.
They will begin each game down one player, who will be shown that red card in line, during the FIFA anthem. He can turn right back around, MISTER and march right back into that dressing room. This way, there's no on-field controversy to muck up the flow of the match.
