he really only chased HR's 1 year. Rickey was the best leadoff hither ever, but Bonds was much better overall.

If Bonds head didnn''t get so big and he did NOT ROID up and still ended up with the same stats................ He would be the BEST PLAYER to EVER play the game.I have Ruth as #1.....BUT If Bonds was clean............It would NOT be close

Ruth is still #1 simply because of his pitching career. Bonds was facing pitchers that were juiced and HGHed up, so I think his competitive advantage is a little overstated. Still hate him, but there is no questioning his greatness.

When he was in Pitt he was awesome........ YES I am NOT a fan of players that are link to ped's. Bonds won MVP's in a down era of hitters in the NL in the early 90's IMO....

During this "down era" Bonds recorded the single best NL OPS since McCovey in '69 (in 1992). Then he followed it up by besting it in 1993 setting the highest mark since Hack Wilson in 1930. Pre-BALCO (career thru 99), he had already amassed 445 HRs. And he played another 8 years! He would have easily broken 600 playing in a down era. Prior to him, only 3 players in baseball history had ever hit 600 (Aaron, Ruth, Mays).

It's a silly argument though. You still haven't listed anything Rickey was better at other than stealing bases.

Rickey Henderson was my favorite player to watch, but Bonds was better. I hated that SOB when he was with the Pirates.

So did his team mates. That's why Bonds didn't rush the mound after getting hit. It was gonna be him against the other team while his team mates watched.

The Toy Cannon? Wasn't that Jimmy Wynn?

Who is the best black player of all time? How about one of the other Robinsons...Frank.

Don't forget Bob Gibson...aside from his great pitching numbers he was great hitter often used as a PH and a perennial Gold Glover. He played basketball with the Harlem Globetrotters for a short while and was an accomplished boxer.

Bonds was the MVP of baseball.

not to mention he was robbed of at least 2 more MVPs in 2000 and 1996

Was Bonds a table setter????? NO. Think about it. Pitchers were just as scared of pitching to Rickey as they were Barry..... Henderson was a threat from ANYWHERE on the base paths. Whether he was trying to steal or not. A lot of stats can be thrown away in certain debates......... Sure Barry[juice ]Bonds hit a shitload of hrs. Ricky stole a shitload of bases.... Separate those two things and IMO Rickey is better......

There's probably a 1% chance Rickey didn't do roids.

Guy was yolked and played forever at a high level.

eta: Not to mention he was on the teams with the guys where it really gained steam.

dude, can you talk around the issue more? Everyone has already conceded SBs to Ricky and you act like you have no idea that Bonds stole over 500 bases and is #33 all-time in steals - it's not as one-sided as all that.

As far as table setter, Bonds actually scored more runs per game played despite not being a leadoff hitter after his first 3 years. Next?

I have said that Bonds was a GREAT player. While in Pittsburgh..... Once he started ROIDING. How many bases did he steal?????????????

You have NO CLUE about the game of baseball........... FACT If I had a choice of who I would pick to be on my team???? Ricky would get chosen over Barry[after juicing]

What does this mean? Are you arguing leading off is most important? I'm all for challenging CW, but if anything it could be argued that better hitters, like Bonds should lead off because they will get more AB's that way.

Stealing bases is over rated a strategy. It's nice, it's fun, but Earl Weaver was right, you are better off waiting around for the 3 run HR.
