USC is USC. The school will be fine. However, I read an article about Virginia tech after Vick was there and their applications increased exponentially. From there, they were able to choose more selectively. To think football and maybe big time basketball like Duke doesn’t help is short sighted.
But some in academia don’t see it this way. And that can be dangerous for the University as a whole in some cases.

The admin likes that Helton is a good guy who isn't going to rock the boat or cause any issues.
The university is completely obsessed with raising money. That's all they really care about.
Maybe they're waiting for all of that stuff you're talking about to blow over first. I guess USC is under the microscope right now. Would Urban Meyer and his recent past do them any favors perception-wise?
Still think they should've gone for someone like Fleck.

Once USC became recognized as a Top 25 National University you knew football would take a hit, soon football will be like Vandy and Duke.
The administration cares only about prestige and academics now.

When the only thing 99% of America knows about USC is football.

You would have to be brainwashed or an idiot to live in California nowadays. Too many damn liberals mooching off the government along with a hand out.

Pathetic, no wonder Urban wanted nothing to do with that mess.

You’ve never left Louisiana have you?

Last time I checked, Louisiana didn’t pass a Bill to give Health Benefits To Adult Undocumented Immigrants.

I like how you would never live in CA because of govt hand outs, but seem to have no problems with your gov’t in Louisiana being the ones taking your money instead for their own wealth

Bro if I could live in a city as rich as LA with perfect weather year round and plenty of incredibly hot women I'd do it in a heart beat. You'd be crazy to turn it down just based on the perfect weather and awesome beaches

Robert Witt needs to set up a consulting firm so he can make huge bucks going around the country teaching bungling traditional football powers how to leverage their sports brand name for a massive influx of money. That man used Alabama’s football cachet to transform the university.

This is not good for college football imo.
College football needs USC to be great again. It's a blueblood program in the #2 TV market in the country!
College football is now too dominated by the southeast and one giant school in Ohio.

USC's student body is heavily International - especially their business school which is 32% International Students...think China.
They don't give a shite about football.
And the athlete student body is heavily international - focusing on Olympic athletes.
USC has produced more Olympians, overall medalists and gold medalists than any other university in the United States.
If USC were a country, in six different Olympics, USC’s medal count would have positioned it among the top 10 competing nations.
USC athletes have won gold at every single Summer Olympics since 1904.
This current administration doesn't feel why it should spend money on a sport that might be banned in 20 years.
They want to be a Global University of the 1st class, they see their destiny as the greatest overall sports University that ever lived, they see focusing on football as backwards and insular and neanderthal...sport nobody cares about but America. They see their Olympic heritage as the future over their football heritage.
Football to the current administration is just something USC has to play...but Haden and the new Sports center made it all about the International Olympic athletes.
USC isn't looking for Southern sportswriter prestige anymore...they're all about global prestige of which International press and students only know them for their Olympic accomplishments. I'm convinced USC thinks CFB is so insular, it doesn't help them and that they can suck but still have a domestic following because of their history.
It's a total shift in being a football party school to a global power institution. It started about 30 years ago...and they got the prestige they wanted after raising the admission standards year after year and recruiting internationally heavily to get the best world students.

I'm pretty sure the majority of USC alumni would strongly disagree with that. They do care about football.

Everyone that covers the sport has had Helton fired for two years now. I would imagine recruiting under those circumstances in next to impossible. IMO, it is similar to Miami under Al Golden. The NCAA didn't hammer them, but the possibility of that hung over Miami's head for several years. Damage was done. USC should have fired him as this class was wrecked.
