Everyone that covers the sport has had Helton fired for two years now. I would imagine recruiting under those circumstances in next to impossible.

USC should be able to top Oregon State in recruiting even if they were getting hit with a death penalty

USC has the best recruiting class this decade and all are unheralded kids.

Once USC became recognized as a Top 25 National University you knew football would take a hit, soon football will be like Vandy and Duke.

But Vandy and Duke at least put up some effort to be competitive from time to time.

USC is not in any trouble academically...

It's a private school that is in the 2nd tier in the USA. Only Ivies/semi-Ivies and Stanford are decidedly better.

“Recruiting is going dramatically better than anybody wants to admit,” Bohn said. USC's AD

The entire administration is in denial.

being unheralded in recruiting is not a good thing

it might not be an exact science, but a team of 5 stars usually always beats a team of 2s and 3s

Why? Because West coast college football is dead.

They didn't make money when doing well?

Even if they dont emphasize football, doesn't the coaching staff still recruit and doesn't the name still carry weight?

That med school dean story is still one of the wildest I have ever heard. Crazy is an understatement.

Duke is #10...you need a National respected God pristine coach in the public's eyes to still be good at basketball.

Notre Dame is #15...not doing so hot in football these days.

Vandy is #15 also, see history.

UCLA is #20 - they suck.

Cal is #22 along with #22 USC, Cal sucks, USC is on it's way.

Michigan is #25, even Harbaugh can't bring them back.

The only University in the Top 50 rankings that is still pretty damn good at football is Wisconsin at #46.

Texas is a dumpster fire at #48.

Every playoff team is outside the Top 50.

#54 Ohio State
#70 Clemson
#132 Oklahoma
#153 LSU (And they're #1)

There's a direct correlation between the crappier you are academically the better you are at football.

And the crappier you are at football, the better you are at academic prestige.

(And the Pac-12 champ Oregon is #102, runner-up Utah was #104).

The question remains, can you be a football power if you are ranked academically in the Top 25? And can't admit 70-90% of H.S. recruits?

Stanford has come close...but they always have that ceiling that really doesn't put them over the top.

They haven’t been relevant in college baseball this century and that’s simply amazing to me considering their history and recruiting base.

Lol Notre Dame was in the playoff last year. Michigan is doing everything possible to be relevant in football. Lack of support isn’t the reason they can’t beat Ohio state.

Florida’s ranked 34th, we’re doing pretty well in football.
