Some crazy quotes from that story. I cannot believe this.

quote:

“As I read the decision by the NCAA, all I could get out of all of this was … I read between the lines and there was nothing but a lot of envy, and they wish they all were Trojans,” Garrett said to cheers Thursday night at the San Francisco Airport Marriott.

quote:

Declaring that “we can still split a national championship if we win all our games,” Kiffin also indicated he was heartened to learn 56 of his players appeared this morning for a voluntary 7 a.m. workout.

quote:

“Regardless of what happens in that appeal, we know this: 'SC is more powerful than anything else,” Kiffin said. “The university, the football program, the basketball program -- no matter what they try to do to us, it won’t matter.”

AP NC

quote:

When a newspaper reporter asked if he were worried about his job,” Garrett patted that writer on the chest as well and said, “I’m just worried about your job.”

Jesus Christ Garrett is a frickING IDIOT!!!

I am flabbergasted.

But keep in mind that he and Kiffin were speaking at a boosters event, so of course they're going to behave all "rah-rah". All coaches sound this during those events. So I'll give Kiffin a pass.

but frick YOU GARRETT.

In the immortal words of The Comic Book Guy, "There's no emoticon for what I'm feeling!"
Can't wait til MG gets fired.

He wasn't popular with post-baby boomer Trojans, but the old guard protected him, and they're a very powerful and influential bloc at USC.

I'd have to say as far as being the AD at USC though, this will be his death knell.

quote:

“We can’t control people 24 hours a day,” O’Neill said. “That’s all there is to it. You cannot control people from the outside. You cannot control agents. You cannot control runners. Those kinds of things get away from you sometimes because you have no way of knowing. I do know this: We do the right thing every single day by the university, by the athletic department, by the student-athletes.”

Kiffin, playing to the crowd, compared the idea of institutional control to raising children. “Imagine if you have 120 of them to control,” he said. “And imagine if you also have responsibility for every parent and every family member they have. It’s a pretty difficult situation.”

wow......

Pat Forde's article:

Hiring Lane Kiffin was not exactly a iron-willed commitment to clean living. Kiffin was on staff as an offensive assistant when Bush was being showered with agent tribute. And when Kiffin bolted Tennessee after one season, he left behind a string of secondary violations and an ongoing inquiry into some way-off-campus recruiting efforts by Orange Pride hostesses.

"You'd never get anyone [on the Committee on Infractions] to admit it, but it certainly wouldn't help them [hiring Kiffin]," said an expert on NCAA infractions cases. "He has such a reputation, it couldn't have helped."

Hunter, it's amazing how the USC faithful will continue to embrace Kiffy. Just like UT did last year. Honestly, wasn't his excuse at UT that he needed to make a splash etc? WTF is he trying to do now? USC face it, with him and O at the helm you wont make it through the 4 year probation.

If I were a USC fan I'd want a new AD right away, someone that would fire Kiffer and bring in a responsible adult to coach us out of our sanctions.

If the USC admins have any respect for themselves and the image of their program, they dump Garrett. He's a damn liability.

He's basically asking the NCAA to watch their every move.

And Garrett is the one who can release committed kids from the 2010 class from their LOI but he likely won't do that because of his classless nature. The NCAA should never give him that responsibility and right over those guys. They were lied to plain and simple. If they want to stay there and struggle with USC then fine but if they want to get out of their LOI because they were lied to than they should be able to do that.

The arrogance of that program is just outstanding. That's going to make it funnier when the appeal blows up in their face and their program falls apart

The AD's comments, along with Kiffin's, will do wonders for their appeal.
