That ejection is exactly why soccer will never grow here. Thats just a play in every other sport. Two guys going for a 50/50 ball at full tilt and one comes down on there other. Ho hum.
Not in soccer though

Not only that, but it forces your team to be down a man in a knockout game for 30 minutes, AND that player is out the next game entirely.

Thats completely nuts for incidental contact.

Hopefully the ejection gets overturned

The rule that a team can only play with ten players for the remainder of the match if someone gets a red card made me think about the teamwork and complexity involved in football (American).

Can you imagine an NFL team having to…

A) Play offense, defense, and special teams with only ten men?

B) Having to adjust in-game to compensate for the loss and at least getting the most out of those ten players without being schematically handicapped too?

That would be very difficult. Yet in the World Cup the U.S. extended its lead even with ten players.

I can get an ejection, but making you miss the whole next game is fricking insanity

I think you can at least replace the player in the following game. Not ideal obviously but better than playing with ten.

But I was only talking about the strategic comparisons of playing 10 vs. 11 between two sports that use an equal number of players and fields of comparable size.

agreed. i really hate the targetting rules in the NFL and CFB. It's waaay over the top for a contact sport.

My thoughts as well. The Bosnia player on the kickoff after the first goal try to do a screen with elbows to the head. Foul on USA somehow. Usually fouls to the head are the serious penalties in Football, Hockey, etc. This just looked like a common foul to me.

I don’t watch soccer much buts seems like a bad call, especially to come from a review.
