This is him and the university floating the "I lied but didn't do anything else wrong" theory to see if it'll keep the outrage down enough for him to stick around. They're gauging what'll satisfy the public.

To me, this just makes it obvious that he knew his dude was beating up his wife and didn't do anything about it, or he told someone else at OSU and they didn't do anything about it.

Maybe they're counting on ESPN to help them out. Sage Steele is interviewing the wife-beater so maybe that'll tell that story.

If he did report it, which he insinuates in this statement, then he should be fine, but his lie at media days is perplexing.

He said "there was nothing," so if he did report it, and the university and the cops investigated and took no action, then isn't his statement from Media Day that it was "nothing" actually kinda accurate?

If Urban says "I heard rumors and escalated it but in our internal investigation it was unsubstantiated but when these official records came to light we made a move to terminate him" then nobody gives close to a flying frick. How fricking hard is that to say if that's what really happened.

"I can't say it didn't happen because I wasn't there," he said, according to the Associated Press' Ralph D. Russo. "I was never told about anything and nothing ever came to light. I've never had a conversation about it. I know nothing about it. First I heard about that was last night. No, and I asked some people back at the office to call and say what happened and they came back and said they know nothing about it."

Ok, nevermind.

These are the quotes I was asking for on the previous page.

Urban may only have lied to the media. It’s stupid but that isn’t shite

So he didn’t fire a serial wife beater but he did tell someone about it at the university. Got it. Let’s build a women’s shelter in his honor. Nothing short of a hero.

I just don't think this works with a guy and woman who've been in their tight inner circle for 15 years though

So which is worse:

-Being willfully unaware of having a wife beater on your staff?

OR

-Keeping a known wife beater on your staff for years?

this is a classic Friday afternoon news cycle media dump.

hoping something else catches the media's attention over the weekend and this all goes away.

if he knew and reported it, why not come completely clean and say that? who gives a frick if he lied to the media during media days.

Zach Smith on the radio right now saying he never committed domestic abuse against his wife.

Says things were volatile and he restrained her some times; but never “abused” her.

Smith wasn't charged in 2009 either, yet Urban had no problem talking at length about what happened there.

He says in the statement he screwed up at media days regarding 2015.

I'd want to assume the school that put him on paid administrative leave would have been aware of him reporting it before putting him on paid administrative leave.

I think you mean alleged serial wife beater than has never been arrested or charged for it even though there have been multiple police investigations

Just want to be factual here

Not only that he accuses people of making up the story.

So if we’re to believe Urban Meyer’s statement, at best, he knew about the domestic violence in 2015, reported it to his superior and then proceeded to keep on his staff the alleged perpetrator.
