Those schools and franchises are long standing brands that will never have to change anything to be recognizable.

I would argue that the more you change things, and the more complex you make the thing you stand for, the less recognizable you become.

I would wager most people think the Packers' logo is a G for Green Bay.

Yea I'm not getting the hate..

Looks good, the only thing that confuses me is the 'mountains'

Yeah the mountains are a stretch, but overall it looks alright.

I actually like the touch with the red star since the sign is probably the city's most recognizable landmark.

I usually like logo updates. And I'm not really crazy about the logo UNLV was using before this one.

But this is one is horrendous

That should be an insanely easy recruiting pitch.

It would seem so. Yet they have always sucked at football. Hell, Wyoming has more prestige.

I have never understood how Nevada a Union State--statehood in 1864-- choose a name and logo that harkens back to the Confederacy.

The name and logo had more to do with breaking away as a separate identity from UNR. Kind of a UCLA vs Berkeley thing, but UNLV chose red and gray instead of keeping blue and gray.

Rebels in Las Vegas doesn't hold the same meaning. Most people who live in LV are "Rebels". It has nothing to do with the Civil War.

Well they were splitting with UNR...

And given that UNR was North and UNLV was "Nevada Southern" - and UNR had a wolf logo, UNLV put a wolf in a Confederate uniform to show the secession from UNR.
