Uncle Dennis: Kawhi wanted out because Spurs doctors wanted him to play through major pain

Over time, the Spurs’ medical staff cleared him to play. Leonard sought a second opinion from an outside source and it was recommended that he continued rehabbing. The organization’s position caused teammates to question if Leonard had ulterior motives. That — along with constant leaks to the media detailing how frustrated the Spurs were with the ordeal — was the beginning of the end of a relationship that had otherwise been relatively healthy for six years.

Robertson revealed why it was time for Leonard to go elsewhere.

“I think it just became a lack of trust,” Robertson told Yahoo Sports. “They didn’t believe Kawhi couldn’t play and that caused a lack of trust in us and then us not believing in them. Any time a player says he’s not capable of playing, you should believe him. Why would Kawhi just stop playing all of a sudden? He’s a competitor. Sometimes you get these team doctors telling you what you can and cannot do, and Kawhi was just in too much pain to get out there. This was a serious issue. They didn’t believe him, and after that, the relationship couldn’t recover and we decided we had to move on.”

I honestly have no idea why Kawhi wanted out of San Antonio. What is the real reason?

I wonder if Skip Bayless will continue to be a count about it

I just want someone who was in that PO meeting to come out and say what went down there. It seems crazy that they thought it would go well confronting Kawhi like that

Wouldn’t be the first time an organization’s docs caused problem.

Ask any Bulls or Pels fan.

Uncle Dennis is just establishing the narrative before it gets brought up before the finals. Team Kawhi forced a trade because he wasn't going to resign in San Antonio because he wants to be in a major market for endorsements. When he signs with the Clippers Uncle Dennis's narrative will be proven to be false.

So the Spurs doctors (who notoriously err on the side of caution, shutting down Tim Duncan in the midst of a title defense and pioneering the strategic rest phenomenon along with Pop) just broke character all of a sudden after handling Leonard with kid gloves though his previous injuries? And then Leonard's camp kept the Spurs in abeyance when the team wanted to shut him down for the rest of the year midway through the season?

Yeah I'm not buying this bullshite attempt to re-frame

There is nothing about Leonard that screams selfish or bad teammate. Spurs fricked up big time.

His uncle wanted him to get star treatment (something SA doesn't do, even with the Big3), and leveraged his injury into a way to move him somewhere that would fête him. As for the teammate thing, Leonard kept his teammates (that had won a title with him and given him the reins in a long line of Spurs success) so in the dark that they had to call a team meeting just to see if they could get a straight answer from him if he was going to come back while they were fighting for their playoff lives. Then couldn't find it within himself to even be on the bench supporting those guys he'd gone to war with for years.

That ain't what I call a good teammate.

I mean he’s in a major market where he’s at now and he has a pretty decent deal with new balance that he just signed not long ago, no?

I really don’t see a reason for him to move
