I had never seen this old USAF logo before. It makes sense though. Our jet and space programs was born largely on the backs of Nazi scientists that came to the US after WW2, scientists like Werner Von Braun among others.
How about this one. It's pretty fabulous.

I mean I get it. I actually like history too, but I know I wouldn't remember a badge a radio operator wore, even if I had seen it before. But hey, I don't have the best memory. I also probably don't read nearly as much as you. I'm also not trying to be a dick.
I find WW2 campaign ribbons and medals fascinating. The German ones are particularly interesting because they are so varied. The Japanese badges are interesting because they are much more rare and there aren't as many counterfeits out there.

Because I love WW2 history for starters and am fairly well read on the subject.
then you would have read the part where the Nazi party co-opted various symbols that had been used throughout time yes? Eagles are fairly common in European heraldry, coat of arms, badges, etc.
Nazis dont have dibs on pissed off birds.

I am well aware of this. The Swastika is a symbol that shows up in ancient geometry across cultures that had no interaction like the Navajo Indians and in Hindu.

I am not aware of a bird clenching a lightning bolt before the Nazis though. The Blitzkrieg aka lightning war is something that originated with the German Wehrmacht.

It's called history.
Let's hope it never happens again.

Ulm, Germany is also where Heckler and Koch firearms go through the Ulm proof house and are given this stamp:

well considering Zeus was associated with eagles and lightning bolts I'm going to go ahead and guess its been done at various times since ancient Greece.
the USA also gave out an air medal that had an eagle holding lightning.
