Even if you drop down to FCS, how do you keep talent in the era of paying players.
ULM produced some NFL QBs. I can’t imagine those guys would hang around for a long time if you somehow find them as a diamond in the rough now a days.

Especially where we’re located. Just a shitty situation all around

I think the ULM QBs I’m thinking of actually started at bigger name schools and then moved down to ULM in FCS.
But now kids will start at big school and not play, drop to lesser school and be good, and then bounce back up to bigger school.
Other than just marketing yourself as a great starting spot (“like Will wade did at Mcneese) idk how you do it.

It will be more difficult but college baseball isn’t necessarily growing outside of the South. NIL resources will be focused on football and basketball.
Also you are about to see the talent pool grow because of roster limits about to drop from 40 to 34
Parity is good for college baseball and I hope it stays.

Serious question. What has ULM ever been good at athletically?
I can’t remember them ever doing anything legit other than a fluke upset over bama in 07 then Arkansas in 12

We have a 1aa national championship in football from ‘87.

He’s right. Fed definitely is not the problem so I hope he doesn’t lose his job. I’ll admit I’m a little biased because I grew up with him. But if he does lose his job, I hope Ole Miss hires him.

I understand what you are saying but at the end of the day wins & losses are what matter. He has completed 7 seasons at the school & has ZERO winning seasons. We gave him plenty of years to turn things around. COVID got cut short where they started off strong but 5 years after that no winning record. No matter where you are that isn't going to cut it.

When women’s basketball first started, they had some success before big schools emphasized it.
The men’s team has made the tournament along time ago. But they’re terrible now.
Obviously, they won the football title in the lesser division back in the day.
They’re good at water skiing, but I don’t even think that’s an NCAA sport.
I think softball had a decent year this year.
But overall, they aren’t doing very well and much of anything these days.

The truth is all of these smaller schools in Louisiana need to move football down to 1-AA. (This includes ULL) . The money required to play D1 football competitively is about to be ridiculous .
These smaller schools do not have the ability to compete and will become nothing but feeder schools for the big boys . (They already are in a way ) . The less you spend on football the more you have to be competitive in other sports . These schools just don’t have the tv money to compete with the big boys

The men's basketball team had around 20 consecutive winning seasons that ended around 1980. They went to the NCAA tournament in 1982, 1986, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1996. ULM Basketball wiki

1984 women's basketball team went to the NCAA final 4. The largest ever crowd at Fant-Ewing Coliseum was around 84 or 85 when NLU played La Tech in women's basketball. They were 2 of the best teams in the nation.

Took baseball theory from him 25 years ago.

I’m afraid the ship has sailed on ULM ever moving from where they are at. I think the school has become so dependent on the football paydays to offset other areas within the athletic program and probably the school itself that I can’t see them ever dropping back down. It’s a vicious cycle because those games suck the life right out of a program because a team like ULM has nowhere near the depth an Alabama or LSU has and then afterwards you are limping through the season barely getting by and people wonder why the team doesn’t win more games? This is a football analogy and off topic but in the grand scheme, fans want to see a winning product and it’s hard to rally around a team that stays in the gutter. I have said it a bunch but college athletics is like the front porch to a school. You have a nice front porch, you will get interest from the public to see what is on the inside.

With a new president being named today, I am anxious to see their philosophy on athletics. Could be a telling sign to the future of the university. The last President drained university funds to salvage athletics, to turn it around the new president but probably more so the community has to get behind fundraising. Could the regional economic boon from Meta be the saving grace for the university?

Sadly it’s the same song and dance to pretty much the same boosters. Not sure the school can tap much more money unless they develop a new fundraising strategy because ULM just doesn’t have the deep pockets like a Tech or a ULL has relatively speaking. I think it starts with courting Monroe area businesses but once again that puts the school at a huge disadvantage because the biggest area business is probably the school itself or St Francis. Maybe the new center being built could help since I would think they would pull a good of talent from the school. Obviously should be a focus to put them high on the radar,
