I would love to have McLane as a model to follow.

Just with the lower level and second level as the only seating, with the canopy. It would fit perfect within the current footprint of Cajun Field.

I think it would reduce capacity back to around 32k which would be perfect.

ULL needs to find a way to get a stadium closer to campus.

Why not tear down Blackham Coliseum and build a stadium there ?

The footprint is too small.

Broadway was the name of ULL’s star QB under Hudspeth a few years ago when ULL went to a couple straight bowl games.

Old Lourdes site would be awesome. Two parking garages as well as parking next to Blackham would work fine. 3 blocks from campus also. AND old time Grocery

The current location is ok, the university just needs to build upperclassmen dorms next to the athletic complex and renovate Fraternity row and it would improve.

The stadium just looks awful. Like a Russia block development.
And the stupid new brown tin they are putting on all the other structures is terrible too. Total lack of appeal to anyone. Need to go with classic old school style.

The stadium is what, 50 years old without real renovations?

They should model it after McLane Stadium. Just the lower 2 levels and canopy. Horseshoe it and call it a day. With a capacity of about 33k.

Sounds great. I thought after Moncus park is built, a new football stadium could be build in place of Girard park....on campus football, across the street from where the original football stadium was (McNaspy Stadium). It would definitely get more students involved.

I heard it. I had to keep a straight face and not join in because I was surrounded by respectable folk.

As a condition of the donation, nobody can develop on the Girard Park land

quote:

In the 1930s, the Girard family donated to the City of Lafayette a large wooded tract adjacent to Southwestern Louisiana Institute (present-day University of Louisiana – Lafayette).  Though the donation stipulated that the tract was to be developed as a park or that ownership would revert to the Girard family

And you would destroy a great urban park.

I know Cajun Field needs a lot of refurbishing and other work, but it's basic footprint is really solid. It's built below ground like Folsom Field in Colorado. Very easy entrance and egress. When you first walk in from ground level and see the field, it's stunning. And it's not that far from campus; certainly walkable in cool weather.

The problem is it needs seriously close to $125-150M in renovations.
