DALLAS (AP) - A negligence suit has been filed on behalf of a 27-year-old mixed martial arts fighter against the operator of a crane that collapsed onto her apartment building.

The owner of the building and the project the crane was being used to build also are named in the suit.

Macy Chiasson is an Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter. In her 11-page petition filed Tuesday, her attorney says Chiasson was left homeless by the Sunday collapse, just as were the more than 500 other tenants of the Elan City Lights apartments.

Officials say the collapse, which killed one tenant and injured five others, rendered the building uninhabitable.

Chiasson says she has lost all of her possessions, including her training equipment. She is suing in state district court in Dallas County for more than $1 million and a court order to preserve the wreckage for study.

She will be one of many...and rightfully so (more than likely).

There is very rarely a time a crane blows down into your apt. Building and you shouldn’t sue.

She's actually a pretty decent fighter. From NOLA too.

Apparently they are supposed to be able to spin freely in bad weather but somebody left it in a locked position.

The apartment building it fell on is only maybe 5 years old at most.

Rumor has it that after the accident, she walked to the job site and demanded to speak to the construction manager

What a cünt. Someone died and she's suing for a cut foot.

fricking opportunists piss me off. Hope he gets fricked in court.

Also if she's homeless, she's a retard. Elan has reimbursed all June rent, all deposits, and given an extra $500 payment and a $100 per diem through Friday of this week. Each resident got probably $3500-4000 and they have apartment locators working for free to help them move into new places. They're also putting the residents up in hotels on their dime. Most places of that quality require renters insurance so property will be covered too. Boo hoo for your cut foot. At least you're alive.

Lives in an apartment. Cuts a foot. Dues for a million!!!!!

Was she storing fine art in her apartment?

Lol.

Anything to make a buck.

I also think they filed the day after the accident.

I don't think she's in for a big pay day but the people who were injured and the family of the person who died most definitely are.

Uh, her lawsuit doesn't stop a lawsuit from the family of the person who died. I'm sure a lot of people are going to be suing over this.

Dropping a ****ing crane on an apartment building is pretty bad. In no way is it a cheap lawsuit to sue for really obvious negligence.

Saying at least she's alive...if that company wasn't hucking cranes into apartments, she wouldn't have had to avoid death and another person wouldn't be dead. That's really bad, and this will be one of many lawsuits that happen, which is how it is when a company effs up that bad.

Fair enough, but despite all of that, is this inconvenience worth $1,000,000+ on top of all the other help the company provided her?

I’d say no, and that’s the point the other guy was trying to make. That ‘woman’ is just an opportunist looking for a fatass payday

I understand that. But why does that entitle her to a payday beyond what they have already been given?
