Two Minute Warning in College Football?

Under the new rules this year, in college football the clock stops for a timeout two minutes before the end of each half.

When it announced the rule the NCAA said the stoppage would not be used for commercial breaks. This was not the case in the FSU/GT game, where commercials played during each stoppage.

We don't get enough commercials already? And, like the pros, when the games run too long they will reduce the number of plays (like last year's rule change that the clock doesn't stop on a first down, outside of two minutes).

Just one more example of them decreasing the quality of the games in order to maximize revenues.

they lost too much ad money on the new clock rules, had to do something stupid like this (2 minute warning) to get some of it back

but I guess I'll wait for a bigger sample size to see if they really straight up lied and do a commercial break in every game at the 2 min warning

If we're going near-full NFL rules, please for the love of God give us challenge flags and stop the auto-review

I saw the FSU game was close in the 4th quarter so I tuned in. Ran the clock off like it was an NFL game, but they packed in those commercials. Didn't get that many plays though. With the old rules, FSU gets another possession and probably wins. They had better athletes and Ga Tech has shite for pass defense.

I keep telling people...the CFB overlords are dick slapping the fans. Just stop watching the first 3 quarters. You'll get to see the best part of games and TV ad revenue will tank and then there will be changes.

One of those timeouts FSU used under 2 minutes and after that commercial break must have had a 5 minute commercial break. It was unreal how long it was in those circumstances.

This why I do not watch games. I have watched two games in their entirety in the last five years. I have better things to do with my time than to watch two hours of commercials. I have attended far more games than watched on TV.

Bingo. I'm not a fan of the 2 minute warning in CFB but they've made everything before the final 2 minutes of each half close to a running clock. Guess it gives losing teams more of shot than what it was last year.

The two minute warning before the end of the game seemed like it had 5 minutes of commercials.

They actually called it a media timeout multiple times. This is 100% going to be a commercial break

Have to pay those professional athletes somehow.

Yes. Saw an interview with Steve Shaw last week (NCAA Coordinator of Officials) where he discussed the new rule changes and he said it will always be a media timeout and the dialogue between the conferences and their media partners is they will use this instead of the often "double commercial break" that often happens late in each half (Team A scores and commercial break. Team A kickoffs and another commercial break).

"Games have gotten too long, we need to speed them up"

This is bullshite. It's always been bullshite.

Broadcast times remain the exact same.

The tinkering of the rules reduce the actual game time by 15-20 minutes and they insert commercials instead.

If they could get away with showing you 3 hours of commercials they would. The are experimenting to find the minimum amount of content they can get away with actually showing where people still watch the commercials.
