So Miguel Montero blames Jake Arrieta for allowing 7 stolen bases in a game.
quote:

That's the reason they were running left and right today because they (Arrieta) were slow to the plate," Montero said after the game. "Simple as that. It's a shame it's my fault because I didn't throw anyone out.

quote:

"It really sucked because the stolen bases go on me but when you really look at it the pitcher doesn't give me any time so yeah, 'Miggy can't throw anyone out' but my pitchers don't hold anyone on."

Anthony Rizzo defends Arrieta, calling out Montero
quote:

"We win as a team we lose as a team," Rizzo said during his weekly appearance on ESPN 1000. "If you start pointing fingers that just labels you as a selfish player. I disagree. We have another catcher (Willson Contreras) who throws out everyone who steals and he (catches) Jon Lester who doesn't pick over. It's no secret. Going to the media with things like that, I don't think it's very professional."

Cubs designate Montero for assignment....
quote:

The Chicago Cubs will designate catcher Miguel Montero for assignment, according to a source familiar with the situation, one day after he publicly called out starter Jake Arrieta for seven stolen bases off them by the Washington Nationals in a 6-1 loss Tuesday night.

Conteras playing well opened the door for him to be DFA'd. They are calling up a catcher from Triple A

Sad what's happened with Arrieta. One good year and then falls off hard.

Montero is 0-31 throwing runners out on the season. Contreras has a 34% CS. Montero has a weak and inaccurate arm and blamed it on Arrieta.

Is it Arrietas fault that Montero has the 2nd worst POP time in MLB?

Arrieta is slow as hell to the plate, but if you're Montero and are 1/31 on the season in throwing out runners you might not wanna be getting on your high horse.

I never heard David Ross bitching about Lester not being able to hold runners.

Montero did great things for the Cubs the past couple years, but this kind of nonsense makes me glad to see him go.

Jake has been good for more than one year, too.

Winning the World Series is great - but that is another month of high-stakes pitching that a staff has to figure out how to shake off before the next season. The Cubs are much better than they are playing. Hope they can pull it together.

A positive note is, that even as underwhelming as they have been this season, they still have a chance to be tied for 1st place tonight.

I like their chances, but will have to get some help if they are going to go deep into the post season this year.

Yep. Could have been an ace but you need more than just one year. Not sure if it's injury, drugs, the yips? Sad!

Lost last year when we went, still had a blast, despite storms during the tailgate and after the game. I don't have the best record when I go in person for some reason.

Had 2-3 good years, but ya over his whole career hes only an average to below average pitcher.
