Such a waste of money! Tulane should donate this money to the city to resurface St. Charles Avenue--one needs off road vehicle to naviagate these days!

how is it a waste of money?

In a way, I agree. Having an on-campus stadium might bring in 2,000 students per game in a good season. Is it worth the 30-60 million that it would cost? I'm torn because the on-campus stadium could do a lot to improve student life at the school, a school which lacks any semblance of school pride. However, I also worry about the stadium only being a symbol for alumni who want to use it to show they want to be serious about football and to say they have a stadium of their own. I was never opposed to Tulane putting a few million into Tad Gormley and having all home games there. But that probably won't happen because for people associated with private schools, prestige is everything. There is prestige in playing in an NFL stadium. There is prestige in having your own backyard stadium, another jewel in the crown so to speak. There is no prestige in playing in a glorified high school stadium that is off-campus.

for anyone skeptic about this rumor (which did include me), it is a done deal... talked to someone high up today

This looks like the most viable type, given the space limitation:

My friend, a Tulane track athlete, just texted me that she spoke to "the head SID and marketing director" and he confirmed kaare's story down to the location.

Nice. But they probably ought to make it contractible as well. Just sayin'.
lol, you mean retractible? I'm sure they will contract most of the work out. Just sayin'.

I think he was joking that instead of an expandable stadium Tulane was more likely to need a stadium that could undergo contraction once it was seen what actual attendance was.

Completely disagree. Just because Tulane students don't get up for football doesn't mean they don't want a winning program or don't have any school pride. All the students I attended with loved Tulane and everything about it.

I wonder if they will let high school teams play there on Friday nights? a good HS game would probably draw more people...

Yes, it was mentioned somewhere. The Glazers along with Tom Benson.

The Glazers own/reside in the big house on the corner of St. Charles Ave. and Audubon Place; across the street from the president of Tulane University.

quote:From what I have read they are not putting up lights in an attempt to get approval from their neighbors. Any talk of letting New Orleans high schools use it would probably sabotage the deal. The west side of this stadium will back up to million-dollar homes. It will not be easy getting the neighbors' approval.

It could get possible use for HS games on Saturdays when Tulane is away or off. But I think there's a low probability for that.

hosting other events would be a good move, if they can figure out the parking issue
any movement on that? will Tulane have any ability to generate revenue from parking (is a garage etc being built as well?)
Posted on 11/16/11 at 2:58 pm to molsusports
there is a student parking lot by the reily center so maybe they could make that game parking, I don't know. I heard that they would tear down that old dorm on willow street
