Was just told he may have coded because diaphragm nerves come off of c2,3,4 and couldn't breath. Cord not transected - but really bruised.

ETA:

don't know if that's what actually happened - just a best guess by somebody in the field.

You nearly hit the nail on the head--with the exception of trach'ing him likely meaning his airway was mechanically compromised (not just neurologically compromised) by the bony spinal column injury. Like others have said, we'll know more in 48 hours. Very sad situation.

What's the prognosis usually look like in this situation? His football career Is over, but I'd hate for his career aspirations of being a medical doctor would have to end as well. He may or may have not been preparing for the MCAT last semester. I remember seeing MCAT stuff on his desk In class

Prayers going out for Walker and his family. A "Roll Green Wave," for the TU family from this LSU fan.

That's too high for comfort (c2,3,4). I really hope he's able to make a full recovery

It's really hard to say before 48 hours. Supposedly he's already getting IV pressor medications, which is another bad sign.

I'll put it this way, other than not making it off the field, there arent many ways this situation could seem worse as far as spinal injuries go. That being said, you can't predict how well function will return in the long run until you've seen how it is at 48 hours.

Prayers sent to this child. I understand he has to undergo emergency surgery on his spine tomorrow. Really tragic situation for Devon, his family, friends, coaches & players, & school.

Just saw the replay two things I noticed, he ducked his head and his own team mate hit him. I hope he makes a recovery to live life normal as possible.

TV just reported they did an emergency trach on the field. Quick thinking and action by the trainers/docs. REALLY hope he comes out of it OK; stuff like this shakes everyone down to their core.

Best to the family as well.

Awful stuff and hope he can make the best recovery possible in this situation. I'm glad I never had to face something like that as a trainer either. Watching that hit with his arms rigid like that is enough to make you sick to the stomach.

NC Tigah was correct earlier - collapsed lung was mis-reported.

Thank God for some small miracles. If you read my post at the top of the page - It would explain why breathing stopped.
