They're definitely going to rebuild, just figuring out where.

No. Thay was shutdown. MLB wants to be in central FL.

They’re going to get one soon. The Rays have a legitimate fanbase now. Before it was mostly transplants that were fans of other teams that would visit the park to see the other team play. Now there’s an entire generation of adults that grew up with Rays baseball willing to spend money to support the team.

So I guess they have they jettisoned that idea that was getting kicked around for awhile where they would do mid-season games in Montreal and doing the early and late season games at a new outdoor stadium in tampa Bay Area. Seemed like a pretty cracked out idea.

January 2022

The Tampa Bay Rays' proposed plan to split the season between Florida and Montreal has been rejected by Major League Baseball.
Rays principal owner Stuart Sternberg announced the news on Thursday.
"Today's news is flat-out deflating," Sternberg said.
The idea of playing in both the Tampa Bay area and Montreal has been discussed over the past several years after attempts to build a new full-time ballpark locally failed.
"Things had progressed nicely and things had been working nicely, and then recently it just sort of took a turn to the south and we don't precisely know why," Sternberg said. "I have no doubt that what we tried to accomplish with our sister-city plan will become accepted in all of professional sports. Major League Baseball simply isn't prepared to cross that threshold right now."
When asked if he felt somewhat betrayed by his fellow owners, Sternberg replied "that's a word."
"The game is peculiar in a lot of senses and things happen for a lot of reasons," Sternberg said. "Sometimes for the good, but always with good intentions for the game itself. We quite often have differing opinions on what that might mean."
"Sometimes people don't like to be first," Sternberg added. "There was a fellow on this call when we went cashless a few years ago said to me, 'I get it, I understand, but why do you have to be first.' It's just people have different approaches to things. We don't mind being first on things."

I love the trop because it reminds me of the metrodome. Great place to watch the game and not worry about the weather.
I liked the idea of a new stadium at the current Al lang stadium site, but global warming nixed it or something.

I visited the Trop while in town as well
They literally had a Bret Michael’s concert in centerfield after the game. It was the trashiest thing I’ve ever seen at a ballgame
Was totally worth it

Hot take, I love shithole stadiums. And the Trop is one of the best.

Hell yeah. That would be awesome

My first MLB game I attended was at the Trop. I’ve been to about 7 other MLB fields since. I can’t believe it still exists. I went to the Rockies/Mets game today. And I absolutely love Coors Field.
That being said, it’s crazy to me, that Tampa Bay ownership actual cares about winning compared to the Rockies, yet the stadiums reflect the opposite.

They don’t really care about winning. They care about fielding a competitive team every year and keeping the farm stocked. This might be the year where the stars align and they decide to make a splash and go after an expensive player at the deadline.
I went see them in 2021 and half the team is gone. Phillips, KK, Choi, Meadows, McCann

Kige. These glass and steel box stadiums suck and are void of any charm or character.
Went to Arlington last Tuesday and it was sterile as hell and that was with a good crowd.
There’s a reason Fenway and Wrigley are always at the top of best stadiums.
RIP Comiskey and Tiger Stadium.

I hear that from several people. It looks very nice though. Is it the location or combination of things?

If they removed the roof it would look a whole lot better. But they really need a stadium in Tampa, not at the bottom of a peninsula that’s hard to get to.
Does anyone really believe that Florida fans will support MLB? That is a great team. They are leading the league in home runs and stolen bases and just blowing good teams away. And the fans still can't be bothered.
I don't believe it's the crappy stadium anymore than I believe a new stadium for the Marlins was the answer for fan support. Florida fans will not support even great teams in MLB.
Tampa Bay would have any city in MLB absolutely bonkers. That is a bad azz team. And Tampa still can't be bothered. It's not the location or just a crappy stadium. They just don't care.

It didn’t help that the roof was closed because it was too humid outside :eyeroll:
But it was like watching a ballgame in an airplane hangar. The stadium has no quirks or really any unique features. It looks expensive but cheap at the same time which is very fitting for Dallas.

No fan support and terrible stadium. Ashamed because they put a good product on the field consistently. They need to move to Vegas or Nashville.
