If true, that's criminal conduct and he should have been charged.
I can't stand Trevor Bauer... At all. But while that statement is typical of the jerk he is, it doesn't look or sound like a crime to me. It's rhetorical speak. He didn't say "I'm going to kill you". He's trying to be funny, in an unfunny way, in saying this person annoys him so much that she makes him want to kill her. People talk to each other that way every single day.

quote:I mean whether it’s a crime or not may be specific to the jurisdiction in which this occurred, but whether it was a serious threat (criminal or not) context is important. And maybe there is more context to show otherwise, but that seemed a lot different than “I’ll kill you if you tell anybody I’m a big fan of Real Housewives lol.” In fact, the whole “I’ll don’t want to go to jail for murder” is a lot further in and of itself, but especially for something like merely seeing that person again. That sure doesn’t come off as joking to me, and if it is, it’s a lot more twisted than any joking I’ve seen.

I can count on zero fingers the number of times I’ve threatened to murder a girlfriend joking or not.

Speaking of context, you don't seem to understand the context of "joking" that I'm talking about. Not all jokes are meant to be funny. That's why I said "in an unfunny way". Perhaps the word "sarcasm" means something to you. It's something that's said in an often irritated manner, with words that are often unpleasant and unnecessary, but not meant literally. This is Bauer's entire shtick. It goes right along with his everyday personality. That's why I don't like him. But to say it was criminal? If you try to litigate the meaning of every sentence like that, that is uttered by someone, we'll all be in big trouble.
Don't sit there and try to tell me you've never said something in your life along the lines of "if you try something like that again, I might have to kill you". We've all said things like that. Now, what he said was framed in a way that was meant to offend, and not to be taken as funny, but I nevertheless don't see how one can turn that into a criminal threat. It just sounds like overly exaggerated sarcasm. An actual threat is typically much more direct and doesn't include qualifiers. So it would be pretty hard to prove anything from it, in my opinion.
But, by all means, good luck to you in your quest to determine the intent of every statement.

So can Trevor Bauer as far as i can tell.

Bauer is a man-child. A few posters will ride or die with him because they can't tell the difference between actions having consequences and political correctness run amok

Hester,
Good luck planting your flag on the “defending Trevor Bauer” hill.

Sounds like your typical case of bitches be crazy.

Sorry. Bauer is the weirdo from UCLA, correct?

Bauers attorney Shawn Holley was also on the OJ defense.

We were reading some of the transcript stuff from today's hearing.
Apparently the San Diego chick lost her with the Padres because she had slept with at least two players, Tatis and Cleavenger.
Texted Bauer to keep his pink socks on, but take them off when he choked her out.
Agreed to his rules of no feelings, no social media and dating other people. But didn't leave after the all the brutal sex stuff because of their deep emotional connection when they met.
The chick from Ohio is completely bat crap crazy. She attempted to extort money from him. Basically stalked him after he broke up with her.
Then the whole exchange when she drove 4+ hours to see him, just makes her look completely unhinged.
Dude is probably pretty weird with some strange sexual appetites. But his woman pick is definitely defective and he needs to work on that.
Just based on what I've read from the hearing going on now...this San Diego chick is cleat-chasing slut who was just trying to get money out of him. Seeing as how she actually texted her attorney she wanted him to write a large check and she'd sign an NDA, I have my doubts about her story.

I've had some rocky relationships but I've never told a romantic partner I wanted to kill her, jokingly or not. Nor has any one told me that.

Funny how batshit people unerringly find one another. You don't often see a well adjusted person together with a nutcase.
