I've seen coaches send batters up to the plate with their shoes untied. It gets pretty ridiculous.

Maybe my opinion of agreeing with the coaches decision is because I do not have any kids. I will say this though, those kids were so happy to win the game and get to keep playing in bracket play since its single elimination.

The batter gets 10 seconds between pitches to do whatever he wants. After that, the umpire can give a warning, then start calling strikes.

I think it was a great call by the coach. What says the MSB parents?

I think you take kids baseball too seriously.

In the weekend tournaments.. I've got no problem working the last few minutes of the clock.. You have limited arms and pitching can go south fast. It's frustrsring being on the other end but it's part of the game.. Now what we would do is take till 2 strikes.. Give the kid a chance to get on base.. If it's one of the better hitters who's making consistent contact, we take only till the 1st strike..

We were in a similar situation this year. We were the home team and had to start a new inning with less than a minute to play. We still won but we did have to usee a pitcher for an extra inning.

Coach took all parents and kids off to the side after the game and said he will never deliberately stall to run out time, that's not how the game is played beyond this level and he doesn't condone it or teach it.

I would let them hit but if the coach felt they shouldn't I would certainly respect that as well.

You would think the parents would be happy to end the game sooner and get home early on a Sunday, after having wasted a weekend at an 11 year old tournament.

I must
A) not give a shite
or
B) Not know anything about baseball

As I wouldn't care either way how a coach handles this situation. I don't see one way inherently more pious than the other

Those stupid parents probably think it's going to blow their 9 year old's college scholarship chance because he didn't get to hit that good pitch.

I've seen the other side of this and it's much worse IMO. Having a pitcher throw a pitch, coach take his visit, kid throw another pitch, coach take a visit and pull him, bring in another pitcher that takes his warmups by hitting the fence and the catcher slowly walking back to get the ball, rinse and repeat until time is out, then get the remaining outs to end the game. I've seen the other team step on the plate and hit the ball for the 3rd out before time expired to get another inning.

I've actually seen that multiple times in Texas both in baseball and slow pitch softball.

fricking Texas...

That's even worse...

Not swinging at pitches is kind of okay in baseball, but bleeding a time limit by not even really playing?

Smart coach. You're winning the game why risk going another inning...wasting pitching and potentially losing

It is a good question really. But frick, we take youth sports so goddamn serious here. The worst parents of all sports are softball/ baseball parents. We have to balance letting the kids just play vs learning how to win/ lose. It seems at times that the emphasis is on the winning side of the equation too often. Maybe it's just me, but I think kids have more fun if we just let them play.

Should've just let the kids play it out. 3 outs plus moving the teams in/out field is going to take way more than 3 minutes.

I remember in little league ball back in the day having a situation where my team was down by a couple runs, and we had 2 outs with nobody on. We were getting close to the time limit, so our coach told a batter to step on the plate when they swung forcing an automatic out.

This got us another inning, and I believe we ended up rallying and coming back to win. I have seen adult softball teams do this as well.

Somewhat similar situations...both were legal and helped a team win. I really don't have a problem with either.
