Agree with all of this. What tOSU is doing here is what Texa$$ did to break the Big 12.

No surprise with that many egos ( OSU, Michigan, Penn State, USC, Oregon, Nebraska)
It's not ego, it's business. The teams making the league rich deserve the most. They are the only ones who move the needle.

They were always mid in football.

Then become the NFL Light with only 30 teams that "move the needle"...and watch it become even more boring than the NFL. It's obscene how much the "needle movers" bring in. The fact that it's not enough for them tells you just how screwed college football is.

If the ones getting the short end of the stick can do better, then let them form their own league. It won't hurt my feelings.

The only ACC teams people watch are Clemson, Florida State, and Miami. When they leave, what's left of that league will be discarded as one does a peel when one has finished his orange.

So ridiculous that this is what college football has come to. This isn't what college football is about. And I say that as a fan/alum of a school that will be just fine given it's a "big brand."

College football is about App State beating Michigan, Purdue beating Ohio State, Vanderbilt beating Alabama, Northwestern somehow making the Big 10 title game, etc.

I genuinely think more people remember Vanderbilt's upset over Alabama last year than who won the national championship.

You need teams to play though. As big of a brand as Ohio State is, I doubt they would bring the same revenue they currently get if they were an independent it’s a short sighted mentality

This is the way to continue killing college football. "Lets give more money to the haves and less to the have nots". Why not just pre-select the playoffs to the top 12 viewed teams in college football.

Nebraska voted with Texas in the big 12 for unequal revenue sharing. You can shut your pie hole on this topic.

Nebraska, OU, A&M all voted with Texas. Don’t point the finger at Texas.

Ummm, that's what SEC fans have been saying for years. Glad you finally agree there are only a few legit teams in the B10.

I don't blame Ohio St at all here. It was already a top heavy conference and then it got massively diluted by inexplicably adding zero fan base schools like Rutgers, Maryland, and UCLA.

Missing the forest for the trees. You forget what happened during Covid, and why the Big Ten shite it's pants and started playing games when they said they were going to sit out. It wasn't the SEC. They are used to getting ignored by SEC fans. It was the Little Sisters of the Poor...and their ratings when there was nothing else on.

You shouldn't want a separate league. You shouldn't want the NFL light. The market for professional football is already cornered on Sundays, hoss. There's no more market left. Real college football fans are already tired of where it's going. Pushing it over the edge into the antithesis of what College Football is, that's a bad business decision for the long term.

But they aren't thinking long term. You aren't thinking long term. You only see the arms race, and the only way your Steven Segal knock off led team can survive is by summarily executing other teams less viable, and even that won't guarantee Ohio State stays relevant. You really think the SEC won't close the gap with NIL? When you only surround yourself with like minded teams, parity is inevitable. Ohio State has built it's kingdom off the backs of teams like Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, & Wisconsin. Without them, what are they? An NFL D-league team.

College Football works best as a co-op. Tight regional conferences with rivalries fueled by tradition and hate. All working together to make their conferences the best in the nation, bring more eyes to the brand. Name recognition is everything. Until, you start rearranging it to only shove the bigger names into geographically stupid conferences that make people scratch their heads. The money was already insane. No need to fly against what the fans want. Unless...

They have an ulterior motive. The sport was never suffering. It didn't need a face lift. It was perfect just like it was. Paying the players was inevitable, and should have been done in a way to preserve the "amateur" athlete. We all know the big boys paid players, and wanted to make it so that they can pay players above the table. I don't think they ever envisioned NIL in it's current state. That scares the Have's. Any billionaire who wants to change the landscape of college football can do so. If Elon Musk wanted to, he could make Utah State a powerhouse for the memes.

So , here we are. The Have's are falling over themselves to accelerate the timeline, burn the boats behind them, and sour the Earth so that nothing they leave behind will ever challenge them. And it's all so fricking dumb. It's leaving tons of money on the table out of pure fear. We don't want NFL D-league. Anyone who watches NFL games these days, multiple games a week will bore you to tears. The ratings stay up because what else is there to do on a Sundy but gamble on football. Just like the NBA & MLB, it's a stale product with inelastic demand. Who knows when the dam will burst. Any football fan worth their salt knows that football is more fun on Saturdays. So why in the hell are the Have's trying to turn it into something it's not.

quote:

The best game I've watched this year, was Virginia & NC State. Those discarded orange peels put on a helluva show. It's the secret sauce. No matter the level of competition, when football is good, it's the best there is. Covid showed that. The ratings didn't drop when the big boys bent the knee.

I don't know the solution. No one does. I just know the old adage, Keep It Simple Stupid. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

Okay, I got tired reading that; I don't see how you had the energy to write it.

I was talking about the Big Ten teams that are complaining. They never did anything for us.

The P2 will take the best teams and move on. Nothing can stop it.
