I'm late to this conversation, but has anyone read the grand jury report?
I'm reading it right now and it's the most shocking thing I've ever seen.
This is the most deplorable scandal of any sort I've ever heard of.

I don't even dare read it. I'm just gonna get more pissed.
And I can do without all the details.

I'm kind of regretting reading it myself.

I could've sworn you were the one saying you wanted him to coach one more game... (maybe that was lester)
It was Lester. Next time try reading before reacting. This is my entire point with this entire story.
NO ONE is closer to this whole situation than I am on this board except for a handful of fellow alumni or former students (I've counted a total of TWO people here) and a few Tigers who live up here (Dr. Smartass and LSUPHILLY are two I am happy to thank for the support.) I haven't said anything about what I think because I'm too close to this as it is and I can barely make heads or tails of it. I come here specifically because I have to deal with enough of this shite locally with all of my fellow alumni (many of whom are family) and this is truly my escape from the insanity that is here right at my doorstep.
I'm not looking to pick fights but I'm going to tell you now that I'm here for some objective and spirited commentary on this whole thing. I don't really care what you think I think...I'm trying to get a better barometer of what most people think. It helps with dealing with this whole mess when you're knee deep and smack dab in the center of it.

Maybe we should be asking what Sandusky knew about Paterno.
Posted on 11/9/11 at 4:03 pm to Nittany Lion
Here's a blurb about how they cut ties with him:
quote:
The Second Mile not only cut off Jerry Sandusky from interacting with children in its programs -- it apparently stopped paying him, as well.
For years, Sandusky -- who founded the organization for needy children in 1977, was being paid $57,000 a year by The Second Mile, according to exempt-organization tax forms reviewed by CBS 21 News. But Sandusky stopped receiving any compensation from the charity in 2008 -- the same year he told The Second Mile officials he was being investigated for a sexual abuse in Clinton County.
"Although he maintained there was no truth to the claims, we are an organization committed first and foremost to the safety and well-being of the children we serve," The Second Mile said in a statement released on Sunday. "Consistent with that commitment and with The Second Mile policy, we immediately made the decision to separate him from all of our program activities involving children. Thus, from 2008 to present, Mr. Sandusky has had no involvement with Second Mile programs involving children."
--------------------
This is the part I don't understand. According to the timeline quoted, Curley told the GA that he reported the 2002 rape incident to Second Mile in 2002, yet Second Mile did not cut Sandusky off from the charity or the kids until 2008, as per their quoted statement.
Even if Curley only told them of "inappropriate behavior" with kid in shower and not of the more detailed sexual assault, what kind of charity for kids would continue to allow a suspected child molester to still have access to its kids? Do they not have some significant liability exposure here if they indeed were put on notice of his behavior in 2002 and he continued to molest kids from the charity beyond that time?

Who thinks Sandusky will throw everyone under the bus trying for a plea deal?

What kind of plea deal do you give a guy like that? A promise that he can do life w/o parole in protective custody?

He'll need it in prison.

Yes, he'll need it.
However, I meant they can only give him so much while he would have to spill the beans on a LOT of other people in order to justify the deal. People don't like the idea of a Chester getting a plea bargain, even if it means he dies behind bars.

Who thinks that Sandusky will commit suicide? I keep waiting to hear that he has blown his head off.
Also, if he doesn't and he does go to jail, can you imagine the hell that the other inmates are going to personally deliver to him?

My wife thinks it's only a matter of time. I am torn between thinking he's too much of a chickens*it to do it and thinking he'd do it to take the chickens*it way out.

I think you should be required to read it before voicing a opinion on the matter. It's a real eye opener and makes you understand why this is such a big deal.

This is actually hard to believe.
It's disgusting.
I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to hear in the coming days that he took his own life or someone killed him.
They should strap his arse to the chair and fry him. He deserves a lot worse

A chronological look at the case against former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, based on a grand jury report in Pennsylvania state court. Some key dates in Penn State football history are included. Sandusky has been charged with 40 criminal counts, accusing him of serial sex abuse of minors.
1969: Jerry Sandusky starts his coaching career at Penn State University as a defensive line coach.
1977: Jerry Sandusky founds The Second Mile. It begins as a group foster home dedicated to helping troubled boys and grows into a charity dedicated to helping children with absent or dysfunctional families.
January 1983: Associated Press voters select Penn State as college football's national champion for the 1982 season.
January 1987: Associated Press voters select Penn State as college football's national champion for the 1986 season.
1994: Boy known as Victim 7 in the report meets Sandusky through The Second Mile program at about the age of 10.
Not really sure why they felt the need to include those 2 things

With as many of the boys Sandusky used his home to seduce, it also sounds like Sandusky's wife may have been implicit in some way as well--especially with her phone call to one of the victims after he was subpoenaed to testify.

I think the word seduce is wrong here, clearly it would be rape. And I'm definitely curious as to what the wife was doing this whole time

Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see Joe Pa pass away within the next 12 months. I've felt for a long time that football and the motivation it supplied was the main thing keeping him ticking.
