I never called it simple brother. That was someone else. I think it is an incredibly hard game to teach at the current tactical level.

It’s just annoying every four years when these threads pop up
so we agree that these should stay on the soccer board where they belong. Thank you

Well, there is no 'playbook' that you can take from coach to coach. How teams set-up is dependent on so many factors. Lots of things go into it. I can explain if you are interested.

What soccer loses in having ties it makes up for by having relegation.

CF used to have ties. If there were still ties, it would make for some interesting conversations.

The Eurotrash are woke and love these ties. Everybody goes home happy.

We would never accept that here. We are alpha not beta.

Its a very fair criticism of the sport

People hated it in american football so both NFL and college have done what they can to eliminate ties.

Soccer doesnt care

One of the things you are missing is breaking ties in group play would penalize the other members of the group. The idea is group play is to advance. You advance on points (3 for win, 1 for tie) and the first tiebreaker is goal differential. If you allowed teams to play on and break the tie it would negatively impact the teams that won in regulation.

When it gets to the knockout round there are only Ws and Ls.

What if the situation was if LSU had a poor season and finished last in the sec (it’s happened) they would have to drop down to the sunbelt and then work their way back up? And if ULL won the sunbelt they got to replace LSU?
CF doesn’t do that but soccer does. You have to prove you can stay in the top league

Is that beta?

Because of the lack of scoring in soccer, NHL is the better comparator. But they too made changes to get rid of ties.

wait till next game, when teams only need a point to advance.

or game where a tie and both teams advance, and they play kick the ball around, dont try to score

flopping, weak penalty kicks, and teams playing for ties is why people quit watching it every year.

Is going to penalty kicks after two overtime periods really that different from college football going to 2 point plays after two overtime periods?

TV and streaming ratings say people are doing the exact opposite of quitting watching it.

Because it is cheap AF to play.

Except in the US.

And people wonder why we can't be dominant in the world like Brasil and Italy.

The biggest reason is that we priced a big part of our population out of the sport.

Inner city kids, where most of the world finds their best players, can't afford to play organized soccer.

So they end up playing basketball, which is the cheapest sport to play in the US and courts are plentifully provided or easy to set up by the players. or football which they usually have the equipment and playing fields provided for them by other organizations, like schools.

We could easily dominate the world in soccer within 2 generations because of our population. By to do so would require us to put in the infrastructure for the best demographic to draw from.

And that's not the suburbs. Invest in soccer parks and leagues in low income areas and inner cities and start getting those kids interested.
