In my experience the coaches are the ones who need reminding that it's recreational sports. Yes they are volunteers but they are the ones who take the competitiveness to the extreme.

This has absolutely nothing to do with that sign.
The sign is about parents setting TERRIBLE examples for the children from the sidelines, which is all too common.

Great sign
...my only problem is it should be bigger and face the stands.

I am certain that all the downvotes in this thread and those who think that sign is stupid are the parents who are taking out a 2nd mortgage to put their kids through travel ball

Kids need to have unstructured sporting games and events. When I was a kid we used to just play baseball for a few hours by ourselves. We knew the rules and we didn't need coaches and parents to get better at playing. We also used to play football by ourselves and basketball also. We also had little league but it wasn't as crazy as it is now.
When you're 12 and under you really don't need as much structured soccer or baseball.

My response was to the comment about being up by 3 tds. Not the original post.
After reading these comments, maybe we should punish players that try too hard, or banish parents that teach their kids to give maximum effort, cause you know, trying is a bad thing if you're better than an opponent.
It would be different if the sign said "parents, please refrain from yelling at officials".
Don't ask a parent to tell his kid not to try hard. Dont tell a parent he shouldnt tell his kid to give eveything he has.
That's ridiculous.
If the person that made the sign wanted to get a point across he could have done it in another way.

While I've been annoyed by parents sitting around me at games, I don't like this mindset. People get on Alabama fans for "Title or bust", but what do you people tell your kids? Because I think it is: "You got an A the first semester, so you don't have to get another A in the second semester."
Accept less than the best and you get less than the best.

I've seen stuff like this a few times this season. Embarrassing.
The hilarious part is our team is a private school and we play other private schools. All of them aren't very good.

Some parents use athletics to teach lessons. I don't care how my kid performs on the field, but he better run. He better hustle. He better give maximum effort.
If he goes 0-5 or 5-5, it makes no difference to me. What I have no patience for is not running off the field or giving maximum effort. That kind of stuff rubs off on areas other than sports.

I certainly wouldn't berate my child for making a silly mistake during a trivial, insignificant game.
Parents like that, who purport to "accept nothing less than the best" from kids who still watch cartoons and eat Flintstone vitamins, are the ones who are shocked when their kids end up a 20-year-old roidhead who blows his brains out, or the type who jumps off the top of the tallest building on campus after getting a 'B.'

No problem with this, sure you can act like that during a college or pro game but unless your dumbass bet 5 grand on the game then you shouldn't be getting worked up over a game played little kids

Maybe you should teach him reading comprehension, so he does not end up like you.

What does that have to do with the sign? Nothing about it implies that he shouldn't put in effort. It's for parents who take the games way too seriously, berating coaches and referees for no real reason.
