Football does have a play off and the champ game was played in Chattanooga, like it has been for many years.

I wonder how the sportswriters and bcs computers would have treated a team that went 13-0 and then lost its last 3 regular games of the season. my guess is that they wouldnt have been playing in the bcs championship.

Bad example, because:

A) The Saints were still one of the top two teams in the league at 13-3.

B) Chances are, they would have gone at least 14-2 had they not clinched HOF.

this year isn't even that bad... butler was a good team all year long

playoffs like this can end up with a lot more embarrassing results than the college basketball champ from this year (even if Duke loses)... see cardinals winning the world series a few years ago

Agreed with the first post. College football is so great because it's regular season. Any playoff above 4 teams starts to diminish that.

What are preseason polls based on?

who cares those don't matter. If they didn't have a poll until the last week of the season, Alabama and Texas would have been 1 and 2.

You mean kinda like the BCS bowls?

No, they play 12-13 games, the 2 best teams over the course of the season play in the BCS CG, the winner is the champ.

Saying that the better team usually wins makes no sense but basing 66% of the decision of who goes to the championship on people's opinions does?

I'm saying that just because a team wins a certain game does not mean that is the best team. The Giants were not the best team in the 2007 season. Villanova was not the best team in CBB in 85. Its better with fewer teams in the playoff.
Quite acting like the opinion part is out of left field. There is no way you can tell me with a strait face that you can't tell who was better out of Alabama and Boise. Now that doesn't mean Boise could never beat Alabama, and unlike SFP if they did, I would not find that a huge miscarriage of justice, but objectively Alabama is a better team. They have more talent and play better competition.

Notice how you're able to show objective data as to who was the better team. Now apply try doing that with the BCS

That's exactly what the computers do and to a large extent what the human voters do as well.

What about 03? All homerism aside, can you objectively say that USC wasn't at least as good as LSU or OU? What about Auburn in 05?

My preference is for a 4 team playoff, however, what you can say objectively is that USC in 03 and Auburn in 04 played the weakest SOS of the 3 teams involved.
