this will be officially recognized by the NCAA, so there can be no argument.

the argument is this system is stupid, which it is

giving any credit to this system is also illogical and stupid, but you cherish it

the BCS has yet to have this problem

Right, the coaches' poll is a random poll.

it's 1 of at least 3 polls. i posted the RPI, which you acknowlege doesn't have them in the top 8

so yeah, your point is meritless. you posted 1 poll. i posted 1 poll. your point was refuted

they're one of the 2 left standing after a single-elimination tournament
According to the official NCAA rules, that makes them either the #1 or #2 team. This will be officially recognized by the NCAA. This isn't up for debate.

Well, I think they are. What objective proof do you have that they aren't?

I almost always root against BSU, but I really hope they make the title game this year because the SFP meltdown would be awesome. It would be such a dilemma... sanctity of the BCS vs. hatred of Boise

2-part question:
1) if Butler wins Monday, are they the champion?
2) did Butler cheat?

If you answered "yes" to #1 and "no" to #2, then you admit that Butler is not a bullshite champ.

I have become more of a Boise fan than I ever would have been just because of some of the irrational meltdowns this board has produced.

I'm rooting for Butler and I generally disagree with your undying support of the "haves," but it was a crime that NC State beat the stacked Houston team in '83.

I don't follow you on this one slow... you had to beat the best teams to get there. you said Butler got lucky and doesn't belong because they faced teams without key players. In that case, Alabama is a bullshite national champion.

I'll use the same argument here that you've given me when discussing the BCS...did the best team win the title that year?

To clarify, there is an argument that the BCS does not always identify the top TWO teams. But you've pointed out the best team ended up being the champ anyway, your argument being as long as the best team wins the system works. So in CBB in 2006, the system worked.

champion should always be the best team

Would the winner of WV/Ohio State have been the best team in 2007? You were a Pat White injury away from that being reality.

You're eventually going to have a year when winner of shitty BCS conference A plays winner of shitty BCS conference B...it's inevitable.

The problem with both the BCS AND the tournament is how they are implemented, not the general concepts of each. The BCS, because there is too much subjective criteria, the tourney because there are too many teams. (not a shot at Butler, I just think there should be fewer teams than 64)

There would be a shite storm every year over who gets that 8th bid. The conspiracy theorists would blow up the internet if an 11th ranked Duke, UNC, or Kentucky team got in over a team that appeared to be more deserving. It's a nice idea in theory, but we have no way of determining who the 8 best teams in the country are at the end of the regular season. The polls are flawed and the media (err ESPN) have way too much of an influence. The best way to do it would be a system like Ken Pom's rankings (LINK but that screws over a team like Butler.

Bottom line: don't try to fix what isn't broken. I'm sorry that Butler doesn't meet your criteria for a champion, but they've clearly proven they belong.

100% agree

Neither Duke nor Butler were a top2 team

Sure they were both top16, but neither one appeared national title ready during the regular season, or what we'll soon be calling "Pre-tournament"

I'm not sure how you could argue Duke. They would have had just as good an argument as anyone to be in the top two, save UK, and UK plays in an inferior conference than Duke.

But Butler and Duke are the top 2 teams now. They got there by beating other teams.

I love it! How much money has UK blown on BB over the last few years... 20 million to get a coach that cheats and bunch of guys that would never had a chance to graduate if they were not going pro after one year - that is the real joke.

If Butler and Duke do not deserve to win it all them someone should have beaten them! At least BB is settled on the court.
