slim pickings here...but it's worth the risk. I would rather fail at trying to change the direction than fail with keeping a stale product.
Matt Campbell has had some ominously poor losses at ISU, but...it's isu. His teams show offensive creativity and he has brought success to that program, which has been hard to do historically.
David Shaw I would NOT want. He would bring the same stale offense that harbaugh planted at stanford. He (literally) comes from the same coaching tree and offensive tree as harbaugh. No thanks.
Fickell, I would take.
I honestly couldn't care less if they don't hire an "established" big time coach/assistant. Hire a young offensive, modern guru/wizard and let his performance at Michigan MAKE him a big time coach.

As an Ohio State graduate, it feels sacrilegious to put Ohio State graduate Luke Fickell on a Michigan coaching list. Rivalry aside, Fickell could be perfect for the Wolverines.
The former Ohio State star has built Cincinnati into one of the country’s elite Group of 5 programs. Cincinnati is a dark-horse College Football Playoff contender this season and Fickell will be pursued for several big jobs in the years to come.
Would he consider taking the Michigan job? That’s the big question…

Shaw has long felt like an ideal candidate for the Michigan Wolverines’ job. He’s one of the most-respected head coaches in the country and he’s done a wonderful job at Stanford, where he replaced Harbaugh.
While Shaw has been linked to several other jobs over the years, he’s always stayed put at Stanford, and maybe he’d do the same if Michigan came calling.
But the Wolverines would have to give him a call if the job opens up.

Campbell, 40, is an Ohio native and he could be an outstanding fit for the Michigan program. He previously coached at Bowling Green and Toledo and already has good ties to the Big Ten’s recruiting area.
Iowa State has done its best to keep Campbell around, but if the Wolverines made a run at him, it’s difficult to imagine him turning that down.

Fickel is the 0bvious answer. He knows how to bring Ohio State mentality to Michigan and he knows how to recruit the type of players they need to beat Ohio State.
Hes got to be at the top of the list for any major Midwestern program.
However, I have no idea if anyone will really get fired this year with all the revenue losses.

Campbell would be a great hire. He gets the most out of his players, his team has an identity, and players seem to love him. He’s a program builder. I’m not sure how many schools he has on his list though, he’s already turned down bigger programs than Iowa State.
Fickell might be ready for the job, I just haven’t seen enough of his games at Cincy. Granted it ended up going to Urban Meyer then Ryan Day, he didn’t seem like he was ever in real contention for the HC job at OSU. But he’s got a few years under the belt now.
Agree on Shaw. He’s had some nice success in a niche over the Pac12, but I think his style is too vanilla to win championships, which is exactly my feeling about Harbaugh

Don't want Fickell. I like but don't love Shaw and Campbell.
A wildcard choice who I would love is UM alum and current Packers OL Coach Adam Stenavich(Youngest OL coach in the NFL)

Yeah Michigan definitely needs a Michigan man. Best way to extend spectacular mediocrity is to hire a man who has mediocrity ingrained in his DNA: a Michigan Man

I bet Leslie would answer the call

Well, Rich Rod didn't work in part because of politics. But, I think we are far enough from the Bo family stuff that an outsider could do his thing there now.

Why would you want a 37 who has never been anything but a position coach?

Why not take a shot at an established FCS HC? OSU did that with Tressel.

Oh please be Shaw

Yeah there is no reason to get rid of harbaugh if you’re going to hire David Shaw

Ladies and gentlemen....I give you the reason why Michigan will always be mediocre.

Someone who played at Michigan.

No kidding.
Fickell is 31-13 at Cincy, 5-0 this season and ranked in the top 7 with an outside shot at the CFP, but we don't want him because he's got OSU cooties? Give me a break.
They promulgate this Michigan Man nonsense because of Schembechler while completely ignoring the fact that he was a native Ohioan and Woody Hayes disciple who had no ties to UM prior to taking the HC job other than kicking their asses as a former OSU assistant.
Fickell has almost the exact same resume as Schembechler had before UM. From Ohio, went to college in Ohio, assistant at OSU for a Hall of Fame coach who owned Michigan, and a few successful years as HC at a mid major school in Ohio. The guy basically is Bo Schembechler circa 1967.

People that say this don’t understand that Michigan men are what continues to get Michigan trounced by any progressive head coach that has any grasp whatsoever of anything but the traditional Michigan 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense. They might as well hire les miles if they want to keep being garbage.

Fickell makes too much sense so they’ll hire some FCS coach from Eastern Michigan State or something

You can't go wrong with either fickell or campbell
