Those 1984 teams were built by trades, drafts and driven by GMs. If you're suggesting the PLAYERS formed those teams then you're being willfully retarded.

See, no. I disagree. Eventually there will be another superteam to take its place. Rinse and repeat. There are not enough options or incentives to help struggling cellar dwelling teams.
So what happens is there will always be GSW, maybe a CLE, but there will always be 10-12 teams that are an Orlando Magic.
I'll speak specifically to the Magic since this is my pain. In baseball, you can build a team through a draft that's 50 rounds (I don't know how many). In basketball, the sport is so niche, you may have 3 players in a draft that are All-Stars in a good draft.
Once a team is not seen as a FA destination, it's future is left to lottery balls (if you're not a conspiracy theorist) and overpaying "money driven" players by 20-30% to field a competitive team.
NBA is a non-competitive league. Anybody just can't beat anybody. And it's great when you're on top, pay a tax and you can sit there forever. When you in the basement, there is literally no way to get yourself out of it besides hoping for a miracle.
