I don't always take a paycut, but when I do, I really don't.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford and Patriots quarterback Tom Brady were the three highest-paid players on American sports teams in the last year.
That’s the word from ESPN’s survey of worldwide sports salaries, which found that Rodgers, Stafford and Brady were three of only seven professional athletes in the world who made at least $31 million last year.
There are some caveats. The survey covered only athletes’ salaries and prize money, and not endorsements.

...the highest-paid athlete in the world was boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., at $73.5 million. Second and third were soccer players Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi at $50.2 million and $50.1 million. Next was Rodgers, who made $40 million in 2013, the year he signed a new five-year, $110 million contract.
Next was Swedish soccer player Zlatan Ibrahimovic at $35 million, followed by Stafford at $31.5 million and Brady at $31 million. Five other NFL players made the list of the Top 20 highest-paid athletes in the world: Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco at $30 million, Tony Romo at $26.5 million, Calvin Johnson (the NFL’s highest-paid non-quarterback) at $25 million and Peyton Manning at $25 million.

Here's the original chart LINK
Matt Ryan really sticks out. I am also curious to see the soccer top 10.

What I took away from this article is Stafford is way overpaid.

Joe Flacco makes more than Peyton. WTF

Stafford has been fine. The head coach and defense have under performed. Stafford is a giant tool, but he's a good QB and better than the Lions have had in a loooooooong time.

All of the NFL players on the list are the sole reason for the downfall of their teams.

NFL salaries are weird because a lot of guys get a massive amount of money one year and then a huge drop off for the rest of the contract. Regardless, Matty Ice getting 30 million is crazy.

quote:Yeah. People forget that he throws it for damn near 5000 yards every year.

Or they take fake paycuts.
But yeah, that's why some of the NFL numbers look out of whack. It's still fun to point this out from time to time.

quote:Fine? Yes. Worth that $31.5 Million Salary (2nd highest Football Player on the list) coming off a year with the 19th best QB Rating & 30th best Completion % in the League? Um, no.
Stafford has been fine.

Don't know all the ins and outs, but Mayweather seems to have done it right. He probably makes a pretty substantial chunk of that through his promotions company.

Wait but i thought the great Tom Brady was taking paycuts left and right to make his team better?
Matt Ryan at #9? One of the worst thrown balls in the league
