re: RIP Texas Longhorns Offense, hires Osu OC Beck
Posted by Roughneck on 1/3/17 at 11:42 am to theebuckeyenut
Beck wasn't even the playcaller at tOSU this year so he certainly wasn't responsible for the clusterfrick that was the poor calling for the Clemson game. Between Beck, Wariner, & Meyer there were WAY too many chefs in the kitchen for the tOSU offense this past season and that falls on Meyer.
Beck also greatly improved Nebraska's PPG & YPG during his time there.
And he's a great recruiter and has been tOSU's lead in Texas the past few seasons to great results (Dobbins, Browning, etc).
Finally, this is Herman's Offense that Beck (who already has a great working relationship with Herman) is simply going to run to HC's specifications.
Was this a great hire? Probably not. A good one? Almost certainly.

If they didn't choke away the Big Ten title game to Ped State, they'd have nothing to worry about. No one to blame but themselves.
re: NC State cant handle SEC speed.

Damn, how did that NC State WR take that screen 55 yards for a TD against all that SEC speed? Inconceivable!!!
re: LSU announcing new coach at noon; reports say Orgeron
Posted by Roughneck on 11/26/16 at 7:33 am to Flavius Belisarius
Strong is getting fired this AM with a press conference scheduled around noon to announce it and then the Texas brass is meeting with Herman in the afternoon in Austin.
If that holds to form (granted things can always change), it looks like Coach O is your guy.

re: The Ringer is a horrible site and Bill Simmons should feel bad about it

He wrote a great article about LeBron before the NBA season and showed that he's still an entertaining read. I'm rooting for his TV show ratings to continue to bomb so that he will be forced to come back and write some more. Articles & Podcasts = Good, TV Show & Running the Ringer = Bad.

Damn, Cleveland Sports living the good life right now. Well, the better life.

quote:Yeah and I'm sure your level of butthurt has nothing to do with the fact that Nebraska was one of if not the best program in CFB at the start of the Big 12 and y'all limped out of the conference as a mediocre program with a 1-9 record vs Texas during your stint in the Big 12.
Im sure you would be pissed off too if your school had a CCG stolen from them the way the Huskers did in 2009. Texas is why the Big 12 is gonna fold and to be honest they get what they deserve, they let those frickers in Austin have too much power and the ruined it.

It's only fitting that the two best teams in the NBA are in a close-out sweep game.

There's good shooters, great shooters, elite shooters, the best shooters of all time, and then whatever the hell Steph Curry is.
I mean, how the frick do you do that Steph? Video games think you're cheating right now!
Outstanding!!!

re: Demarcus Cousins uses Chris Paul to save the ball

Heh, oh Demarcus. Never change.
And then there is this report from the gameplay director of NBA2k yesterday:
There are good shooters, great shooters, elite shooters, the best shooters in NBA History, & then finally, Steph Curry.

In an interview with Forbes, Mike Wang, the gameplay directer of the immensely popular NBA 2K video game series, says Curry has forced the game’s production team to change its approach to how the game is designed.
“To be completely honest, we are still looking for ways to better translate his game into NBA 2K,” Wang says “He’s a ‘rule breaker’ when it comes to jump shooting … he becomes a problem in the video game world where we’ve been trying to train our gamers [to know] that certain types of shots should be rewarded versus others.”

Broke the NBA record for consecutive games with a made 3-pointer (128 tonight). Who knows how long he'll stretch that record. You could tell me he'd put that number in the 300's & I wouldn't be even close to surprised.
There have been worse throws in Football History but not many.
re: What if Brandon Weeden and Christine Michael become starters on playoff teams?
Posted by Roughneck on 12/21/15 at 10:11 am to lsutigers1992
Doesn't bother me in the least. This was a completely lost season when Romo went down & we couldn't do anything without them. Let either of them succeed while we hopefully suck and lose the final 2 games for a better draft pick.

And apparently so is Mark Brunell.
ROY right now IMO (just slightly ahead of Towns). The Knicks absolutely got it right in this last draft.

Is it silly to think this team could actually go undefeated. If a team has only lost 10 games before is it impossible to think a team could win 82. Not saying they will because I think it would have to be a situation where they went for it. My guess is that they will end up losing to a bad team on a back to back sort of thing on a road trip. What say the board. Will a team ever get to the elusive 82-0.

Fedora has been incredibly meh at UNC the last 3 seasons. The only reason they're doing so well this season is because he brought in Chizik to run the D.
We have to bring in a new OC that specializes in the Spread in the offseason & still have a lot of big steps to take but I'm pleased with the direction of this team. Considering the difficulty of the schedule up to this point, the two crushingly close defeats to Cal & OSU, and how still ridiculously young we are across the board, I'm still on the Strong train.
re: Did the Longhorns piss off their fans yesterday?
Posted by Roughneck on 10/11/15 at 9:20 am to tigerdup07
I loved every single second of it. Yes, the play has been incredibly frustrating to this point but anytime you can have your very young team come together and beat your Top 10, Undefeated Biggest Rival, you have to take it! Now I'm hoping for it to springboard us past our damn tough first half of the season to our easier second half and bowl game.
quote:Um, a thousand times this.
CFB is a free farm system. Big ratings for their draft and marketable rookies. They want you watching college football. Why do you think we get 16 Thursday night games rather than 16 Saturday games
The NFL LOVES College Football and would prefer you watch that over anything else not NFL related. Dumb thread is dumb.
quote:This. We're too damn young this year (2 true freshmen starters on the OL is never a good thing) & we still don't know who our QB is (Swoopes has greatly outplayed Heard in camp but Swoopes still scares the crap out of me).
I seriously doubt UT wins that many. More like 6 or 7. They should be a lot better next year though.
Expect a close game for maybe a half before our defense tires out.

re: Why as a Lakers fan we should love Russell
Posted by Roughneck on 6/26/15 at 4:49 pm to VA LSU fan
As a Lakers fan you should love it because you got (IMO) the best player in the draft & a guy who I would be absolutely shocked if he didn't make at least 5 All Star Games.
The average sports fan in America would automatically recognize Anthony Davis by his brow alone and his height helps as well. Would the average sports fan in America recognize OBJ if he was just walking down the street?

quote:He can't be any worse than the disaster that was the Jacque Vaughn era but I was/am really holding out hope to see what Thibs can do with such an energetic & interesting roster. He would absolutely get them to the playoffs next season.
From what I've heard is he'll be great for the first couple years and then everyone will hate him. Wouldn't be all that bad for Orlando. He could get them above .500 then they can bring in a closer a la Kerr to take them to the next level.
