Oh, you're absolutely right. One of my favorites (no, no, I take that back...definitely my favorite) was Gene Wojciechowski of ESPN:

"Houston could have chosen USC tailback Reggie Bush, but instead got sloppy drunk on "measureables" and potential rather than actual production. Hel-lo, did you see how many contrails and broken ankles Bush left behind this season?"

The Williams-Bush-VY saga is just another example of why you cannot definitively judge a draft until at least 3 or 4 years out.

I don't know

What pick did they get from Chicago, the 18th overall? Plus a third round pick, then another 1st next year and a starting qb (who was actually playing decent). I think that has more value...not sure about what the chart says...and it's not like a team would not have traded a top 5 pick for Cutler. Hell, there were talks of the Chiefs trading the #3 over all for Cassel before he and Vrabel were given to them.

I thought the Texans made the right call.

I wish I'd posted it here for posterity

Yes, Joseph Addai (a Texan) was the best player in that 1st round.

As far as first round RB's, Addai and D. Williams have both out produced Bush. Williams has turned into quite a player and I'd love to have that kind of pass rusher on the Saints. HOWEVER, drafting Bush added a ton of excitement to the team and was a major factor in the season sell out (something that has continued since). A defensive end simply doesn't create that kind of buzz. And for the Saints, they desperately needed to make that kind of splash at the time. Right now, if given the opportunity, I'd trade Bush for Williams. But as far as the impact on the franchise as a whole, I'm glad we got him.

Anyone saying they would take Bush over Williams is the biggest Saints homer on the fricking planet. Not even close. A dominant passrusher is so much more valuable than a slightly above average scatback.

after the first two, the next names that even remotely catch my interest would be Cutler or Ngata....the rest just busted out as far as i'm concerned

the Saints don't make the NFC championship w/o Bush..when he was drafted that was about as excited Saints fans have ever been.
To this day when he gets the ball in anytime of open field..backfield/receiver/punting...the whole Dome is a buzz....Bush biggest thing is injuries. Not sure why so many people hate him w/ a passion

McCargo. Big time bust. Kyle Williams has been starting over him since they got into the eague. Williams is probably the best DT in the 2006 draft

How many all pro years has the bushter had? Cuz Williams has been all Pro both of his years, including first team last year.

I repeat, a dominant DE. Vital part of a football team. If Bush can ever learn to run between the tackles, he can be a Charlie Garner caliber player. And I love Charlie, but thats not the level of difference maker as a dominant DE.

I'm not denying this....but so is a game changer..someone who can hit that homerun....Bush prob. would have had a great shot at Probowl last year until injured.

Jakey..I have no idea why youhate Bush so much. Maybe it's because you like to rile up the board and go against the grain to be different...but you act like he has never did shite.

I'm sure you been to a big Saints game...people will boo him one play then go nuts next time he touches the ball because it can happen.
When he's back for a punt the crowd chants REGGIE REGGIE REGGIE

He brings something to the team...I wouldn't trade the NFC championship run for anything and he was a vital player in that run.
