The NHL would be stupid to not market this and try and grow the brand in the Southeast. So naturally we won’t hear a peep about it and will only see Canadian teams and other traditional markets.

Hard to market a rivalry when you aren’t willing to fill up an arena. It’s been tough watching basketball in these stale environments.

because no one more than 20 miles from the arenas gives a crap about Lightning and Panthers...

It will be just like when the Storm and Predators met in Arenabowls

And their stadium still gets taken over by the northern fan bases

But the Panthers is even worse

TB would probably take over down in Miami if we could have 100% crowds

It’s way easier to just let TB continue their thing as a pride of the Bay Area and ship the Panthers off to Quebec City or Hamilton

The issue for anyone who knows the layout of south Florida is that the panthers play like 45 minutes north of Miami. It’s not easily accessible.

I went to a Panthers game once and was astonished at how it sits on the edge of the Everglades and away from everything. Strange place for an arena

Huizenga did the franchise no favors going out to Sunrise. Hockey arenas are meant to be downtown but that was the era of putting parks out in the suburbs, they wanted to be more of a Lauderdale/Palm Beach team. Being terrible for 25 years also hasn’t helped.

The Florida Panthers are the most forgettable franchise in professional American sports.
