And ESPN has a big ole picture of Kiffin with the story.

With a step-by-step explanation, the SEC announced that its institutions are "not permitted to have an athlete on its roster who has:
1. Previously declared for the NFL, NBA, or WNBA draft, and did not appropriately withdraw.
2. Signed a contract with an NFL (or other professional football league), NBA/G-League, or WNBA (or affiliate) team, or ...
3. Been listed on an NFL (or other professional football league), NBA/G-League, or WNBA (or affiliate) roster."
The announcement concluded with annotation that commissioner Greg Sankey "is authorized to enforce this expectation with penalties against member institutions.

The way to solve this would be for the SEC to break away from the NCAA and reach an agreement with the NFL and NFLPA. The SEC could allow players to go back and forth between seasons. Within seasons is difficult since college students are expected to be enrolled in classes but with online courses that could be addressed.

The TRO in Louisiana does not stop at the NCAA. It expressly reaches “all persons acting in concert or participation with it.” The SEC is no stranger. It is at a minimum a participant. It is a conference that participates In NCAA sanctioned contests, conditions conference competition on NCAA bylaws, and has its commissioner Greg Sankey signing affidavits in cases where the NCAA (not the SEC) is a named defendant.
If the SEC now attempts to keep players off the field after they terminate their pro deals, the SEC is also acting in concert with the NCAA. And a judge in Louisiana may find it to be in contempt.

Damn! Vote was 16-0. Which means LSU didn't veer away, stayed on the tracks with the other 15 SEC schools.

Because they support the rule moving forward. Meanwhile, legal action by Class of 2022 players will decide if they get to play.

If Bama, ND, OSU, Oregon or Michigan were doing this…. Media: “awwww, they are truly looking out for the disenfranchised 2022 class….kudos”
LSU/Kiffin thought of it first, saw all the angles, did their due diligence and then executed.
If ANY other coach were in the shoes of Kiffin or any school in the position of LSU, they would’ve done the same exact thing.
This is simple disingenuous and jealous banter and the media knows it….but they have had Lane’s # since leaving that little campus in Oxford and everyone has had their panties in a wad since.

And you think that action would hold up in court as not damaging the plaintiffs?
It's going to be all or nothing. The players will be cleared to play with no repercussions on the schools or they won't be cleared.

No since players get drafted into the NFL all the time without playing in their conference title games?

To be consistent I would think all would have to be considered similarly? Although it seems like a change in historical policy.
For example Josh Booty played MLB before eventually returning to play quarterback at LSU in the 90s.
It is sort of a mess. European basketball players are commonly professional before even being college age. The better American basketball kids of high school age are also "wink wink, nudge nudge" uncompensated amateur athletes

We all know they aren’t going to do that, and let’s also be real, that would be an advantage in the current playoff system

People have had it in for Lane since his Raiders days and his time at USC and Tennessee. I think LSU could have done better than Lane, but he's our coach but he came in with so much baggage.
What's interesting is that everyone loved his dad Monte, and Lane invites so much scorn.

There are current athletes in other sports that have been doing this for years with no issue. shite there’s a B10 school that had to buy out an overseas contract for a women’s basketball player.
Zero chance these brand new targeted rules stand up in court.
