The Patriots: Would Love to see them sign Cam Newton

Bill is all about surprises. He already has one Malzahn coached QB, Stidham, on the team. Imagine Bill signing Cam Newton and letting Josh McDaniels tailor his offense to Cam's skills.

I still think Stidham's their guy.
If they bring in another QB, I think it'll be someone they can turn to if Stidham falters... not someone to start ahead of him.

they'll get Dalton before Newton

Then Cam wins a SB thanks to BB and the defense and it is over

They have five million in cap room. Unfortunately they won’t be signing anyone of any significance.

Cam doesn't have skills. The main thing he excelled at he is no longer capable of doing, and the main thing a QB is supposed to do, throw the football accurately, he has never been good it. Why would the Pat's sign someone that has been washed up for years, has been injury prone his entire career and has had multiple shoulder injuries to his throwing shoulder over the last 12 months?

So, you're saying Cam Newton has a chance?

they wouldn't have let Tom get away if they weren't content with Stidham

Yeah that's not how that worked. The Pats were up against the salary cap, and just couldn't pay Tom and targets. As soon as Hooper signed that big arse deal, and everyone else was franchised, I knew he was gone.

What would these be?

I want them to somehow get Watson just so we see the craziness in Houston.

Wouldn't be surprised if they went after Deshaun Watson

So, they are using Cam to beat down the price of the guy they really want.
No way they let Brady go and one of their fallback plans wasn't even on the market.

Gross. Way too slow making decisions to be a fit in that offense

? I think this thread iS just a what if.
Even if they wanted Cam, nobody would know.
BTW, just imo, I think a lot of y'all are forgetting what cam can do when healthy. I think he's got issues with accuracy too, but he did go to a super bowl and win an MVP.
Go back and look at the healthy seasons he's had, even his worst seasons when fully healthy arent to bad.
Dude isn't as bad as the msb likes to say.

Bringing in Cam Newton at this point makes no sense for the Patriots when you consider where they are the moment.
- 1/8th of the Patriots' salary cap in 2020 is dead money. In 2021, they'll probably have more than $90 million in salary cap space.
- They had the oldest roster in the league last season.
- A lot of their 2019 draft class didn't get much of a chance to play last season, largely due to injury. They also have 13 picks coming in this year's draft.
At this point, I think what they're going to do is use 2020 to straighten out their cap issues, evaluate the 2019 and 2020 draft classes, and figure out who's in their plans for 2021 and beyond.
And I think the player they most want to evaluate this year is Jarrett Stidham. I heard a Patriots reporter on the radio today saying that the team thinks he's further along than Jimmy Garoppolo was after Jimmy G's rookie season. The hope is that Stidham can be reasonably good and that they can enter the 2021 season with a younger, retooled roster surrounding a QB on a rookie contract.

That’s not surprising. Jimmy was notoriously terrible in practice
