No narrower than the Oaks at Sherwood...I'll take my chances.

I hate when they do this. 250 yard par 3's and 650+ yard par 5's are stupid. At a point it has to end. Length is not always the answer. Be creative. The rough is long enough to take away bomb and gouge players which is nice. But length with fairways that fall away from tee shots? And I bet the top of those hills are brown by Friday.

So this will be another Bethpage Black have to water greens in between groups?

If they want to look stupid? Yes.

I was at the 3rd and 4th rounds of the Open at Winged Foot in 2006...most brutal layout I have ever seen. Winning score was at +3 I believe
+5 Actually

One of you guys help me out here... they'll be playing the Lakes course, right? Not the Ocean course or the Cliffs?

Here is the course. Notice the back to back par 5s on the back nine, none on the front nine, and they are splitting tees at 1 and 9 this year
should be interdasting

Tiger fans already crying before the first shot is struck. Lol. The course was unfair!

I'm a Tiger fan and I say HELL YES to the layout. I love to watch these guys take on the US Open every year.
That being said, Tiger won't win. The leader in driving accuracy will win this week. That means Tiger and Phil should be middle of the pack, if they make the cut at all.

No water on the course and only one fairway bunker and I think only one person will be under par
I was amazed that there is only one fairway bunker. I don't think anyone will be under par.

Tiger wins this week, or he's in contention the whole time. Look at his driving stats this year. And he has a ton of rounds at Olympic, and you don't have to bomb it around there.
I'd guess it's Tiger and Westwood come Sunday

Its not PGA pissed...it is the USGA. Also, look for those who has kick arse short game and putting to win this bad boy...think of Stricker.

I loved reading Dufner's thoughts in the SI article on how hard everyone was anticipating the USGA was going to make the course. Said something to the effect of "it is what it is, I like it b/c the guys that worry about complaining about it have already lost. They are already mentally out of it". That's definitely the right mindset to have this week.
Funny you mention this b/c I'm 100% sure tv didn't show this yesterday. On 17, which was playing as the toughest hole yesterday, Paddy Harrington literally duck hooked his drive to about 20 yards in front of the tee. He duck hooked it in to the pine trees that line the left side and was about even with the ladies tees
. Looked very weekend golferish...until he hit 3 wood to 70 yards short of the green and got up and down for par
. That's why they're pros

I don't mind seeing absurd tracks every now and then. Sometimes it's fun to see pros look like hacks.

Rush played the course two weeks ago and said he wouldn't be surprised if the winner just shoots par.

I played Lake two years ago. I was a 9 handicap at the time and I shot a 96. It's long, narrow, lots of uphill shots to small greens, and I thought the rough was bad then. In fact, I tore my rotator cuff that day trying to hit out of it. I can't imagine what it's going to be like for the Open. I've played the Ocean course as well and it's more wide open and a lot easier. Lake is a beast.

Who do yall think this sets up well for? I would guess guys that hit it straight with good short games. I'm liking Luke Donald and Justin Rose to finish high.

I think it's safe to say Tiger will be using his 3W and 2I off the tee mostly this week, so he could be near the top of the driving accuracy list.
Actually just looked, Tiger is 2nd in driving accuracy on the tour, so its not like he's THAT bad.

Just saw on twitter that Lee Janzen likes Zach Johnson's chances this week. Not a bad pick
