I just read a tweet stating that Southern University will play only three home games this year and will have a combined eight games on the road or at neutral sites. Throw out the Bayou Classic, and that’s still seven road and/or neutral site games.

How much longer do we have to keep the charade going that HBCUs are what they were originally intended to be? Segregation is over. We have too many institutions of higher learning and too many people attending them pursuing meaningless degrees.

If your alumni base and supporters can’t muster up enough support to make you more than a traveling punching bag of a program, isn’t that an indicator that something is wrong systemically?

The Jaguar Nation has become more of a Jaguar Village...they don't draw worth a shite at home anymore.

HBCUs served an extremely important purpose. Thankfully the need for them has pretty much been eradicated. That's a very good sign societally.

Craig Lopez from WAFB.

Southern plays just three games at home this season. They'll play eight games either on the road or at a neutral site. @clunkins ain't worried. Southern preseason special Saturday at 6:30 on @WAFB ! #SU #WeAreSouthern #RoadWarriors

Currently, on higher end of the spectrum, there are still some really good schools in that group.

But those are few and far between.

In Louisiana, they're little more than places for black legislators and their families to get high paying, little work, government jobs for life, with the added benefit of stealing from the university. AND THAT'S THE "GOOD" ONES.

SUNO is nothing but a perpetual Pell Grant fraud.

Completely agree with this statement. Especially the SUNO part. SUNO should have shutdown damn near a decade ago.

I'm not intricately familiar with SUNO since I'm not from there, but....haven't heard too many good things. I'll just put that nicely. It's a shame.

HBCU’s were much better under the Jim Crow laws

they tried about a decade ago and it was just sad listening to the defenses of SUNO

those defending SUNO basically admitted it wasn't a university and/or a path to education. it was just to give part of that experience to poor people and/or minorities

Yep. Places like Howard and Morehouse are quality schools.

Black people are starting to wisen up and avoid Southern. The black population at LSU increased dramatically during the time I went there.

Aren’t FCS schools more likely to have a lot of road games if their schedule includes teams from the FBS? If so, what’s the problem here?

This seems rather odd considering that the assumption that attendance was improving since they started winning again.

Pretty much. Back then, HBCUs got the best black students and student-athletes.

Well LSU has done a better job as far as outreach goes. Especially for first generation to go to college goes. I know the diversity dept is usually a whipping boy on here. But I do think they service some purpose.

Yep, I just looked up Stephen F. Austins schedule. They only have four home games.

Yeah this thread makes no sense... more than likely just brought up the topic to down talk HBCUs... probably discovered his wife porn search history and decided to lash out
