John Curtis didn’t even win the title that season.

Most teams prematurely in the GOAT discussion ultimately don't win state.

1996/2006 Catholic-BR
2014/2021 Ponchatoula

All 4 teams are examples of teams that were in the GOAT discussion before being eliminated.

Greatest season was one of those late 80s or early 90s Ruston. 1990 maybe?

Eta: Not end in a championship, my bad, didn’t read

Both Ponchatoula teams went unbeaten, all games except 1 each being over at halftime (Jesuit for 2014, St. Paul for 2021). Jesuit won D-I while St. Paul barely lost in the semifinals to eventual D-I champion Catholic-BR. People were picking Ponchatoula to beat defending state champion Acadiana by 3 scores in 2014.

2021 was littered with D-I talent all over the place. It's rare for any school to have a single-season team that talented, let alone a non-perennial power like Ponchatoula.

1999 Evangel
2000 West Monroe
2012 John Curtis

That’s it

Gotta be dominant, play the best competition, especially out of state, and it can’t be your first championship. You got to have a few before that

Had a couple cousins on that TC team. Went to the game vs Curtis, the Rebels fans were shocked.

2001 Parkview Baptist is the greatest season in Louisiana high school football history

I knew the Hebert brothers really well, it was an amazing season that ended on such a down note

I think there was one other unscored on, unbeaten and untied team in LHSAA history, a Cathedral Carmel HS (Lafayette) team in the late 50s

I may be wrong about that, we’ll see what the old timers say

Remember the Hebert brothers, my cousins were Judices. I used spend a few weeks a summer in Lafayette when I was a kid; my grandparents lived on Mudd next to the water tower a block off of the Thru way.

Quarterfinal playoff exit says/prove otherwise... only proves Acadian football wasn't that good in '82

I graduated with one of the Hebert twins son at TCH.
He was a great player in his own right.
TCH has to be the best program in the state without an appearance in the state finals.
Sonny had so many great teams that came up just short.

I hated that team… they ran up the score on other teams by keeping their starters in for the whole game. I was so glad the lost. I wish Curtis would have scored 50 on them.
