Will be interested to see who gets Goldy.

Too bad he has only played first. He would fit very nicely as a RH power bat behind Freddie if he was capable of playing left.

Somewhat forgotten name update:

Patrick Weigel was sitting 95-98 and touched 100 late in instructs in his first multi-inning stints since Tommy John surgery in 2017. He has been easing in to heavier work loads since returning late in the season and making 4 appearances for the GCL Braves.

He pitched 4 scoreless innings, giving up 2 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 0 in the GCL.

Law said he thinks he will be in Atlanta's rotation at some point next season based on what he's heard about his stuff in instructs assuming he doesn't have any setbacks.

Kiley McDaniel chat notes

1. Doesn’t think Braves are “itching” to part with pitching prospects

2. Thinks they will deal with logjam at the big league level rather than thin out system. Mentioned Sean Newcomb as most likely starter within the org to be moved. Has also mentioned that he thinks Teheran will be easy to move if they need to clear money for a big move.

3. Realmuto seems like their top trade target and guy they’d be most willing to part with prospects for.

I've been thinking (internally) that this might be the case. Just a gut feeling I've had.

I really really like Fried, even though he keeps getting hurt. I think in the long run he'd be a much better LHP option for the rotation. Without accounting for the (slim) possiblity of adding a T.O.R. type of guy, my ideal rotation moving forward would be:

Folty
Gas-man
Touki
Fried
Soroka

with Gohara, Wilson, and Wright lurking in AAA to serve as depth for injury and performance issues.

I'm just not a fan of going after a SP this offseason.

Sure. I'm totally down watching our starters struggle to throw more than 4 innings while still throwing under 100 pitches. Sounds fun.

I just got a notification that Freeman, Inciarte, Duvall, and Markakis are gold glove finalists.

How are Markakis and Duvall on there and how is Swanson not

Duvall led the NL in Defensive Runs Saved despite only playing 138 games. He is one of the best defensive left fielders in the game.

Not sure how Dansby didn’t make it or Markakis did.

Yeah. Can't believe Ozzie didn't make the list either.

“Obviously with the year he had, we have no reason to believe he can’t be the every-day guy going forward next year at third base,” general manager Alex Anthopoulos said.

“That doesn’t mean that we’ll rule out something if something presents itself. (He) really emerged as the year went on,” Anthopoulos said. “The fact he can play short, second, move around just gives more value to us.”

quote:

“He was awesome when he started the season,” Anthopoulos said of Riley. “Got up to Gwinnett, had the three home run game. Tailed off for a bit, missed time. Came back and really played well at the end. That’s what I’ve been told about him. He starts off slow when he goes to a new level and eventually he’ll just adjust and get better.

“The fact he turned 21 at the start of the season, the plus defense, the makeup I heard before I got here was off the charts. It just continued. We’re very, very high on him and very excited about him. He’ll develop mentally, we’ll continue to get him at-bats and see where it goes.”

What do we think? Camargo going to super util?

I see Camargo starting the year at 3rd and then moving to SS when Swanson inevitably gets hurt. Then Riley to 3rd

Camargo is not a starting shortstop. You remember that ball that Culberson couldnt get to up the middle in the playoffs? One that Dansby makes most of the time? Camargo doesnt even have the side to side agility Charlie has. A rocket arm? Yes. Good at charging forward? Yes, but he has no range. Him starting at short would severely hamper our defense.

Bowman really pushing that Realmuto is top target and indicates Soroka and Riley was the ask at the deadline.

Anyone have any thoughts on how Darren O’Day will fit into the bullpen next year?

Hopefully a legit vet arm. And hopefully will have 2 more added alongside him.

Hope not. Defensively we're okay at catcher.

I'd rather have a big bat playing outfield where there's less wear & tear on the body. Catchers get beat to pieces.

I really, really like Realmuto but not if Soroka is going the other way in a deal
