Not even close, and I’ve encountered this provincial shite thinking before.
You don’t understand the wealth at some of these other schools if you think SMU compares.
Notre Dame has the chairman of Augusta National and one of the most powerful sports power brokers in America as its lead in this and also happens to be one of the biggest suppliers of talent to Wall Street there is. SC has 15 billionaires all on its on own - by far more than any school in Texas. Michigan dwarfs SMU in terms of overall alumni wealth - they are all over Wall Street and Hollywood. Stanford should speak for itself - if they ever got serious about NIL, no one else could compete.

SMU is tiny compared to the schools you mention. They are filthy rich for their alumni size. You aren’t comparing apples to apples if you try to compare SMU to Michigan and SC. It’s silly. How many students do those schools have?

I know it's probably fool's gold but Indiana's legitimately looked like the best team in the country so far. They've steamrolled everyone they've played.

Agree. Against a really good team, his carelessness will cost them.

Nah.
Big 12 is worse.
Not one single team in that conference belongs in the playoffs.

quote:Having a bunch of billionaire alums is great but it does jack shite if they have 0 buy in and don’t care about spending money to have a good football team. The percentage of SMU’s rich alums who are willing to invest in a good football team is probably higher than most of the schools you mentioned.
Dawg, SMU alumni are rich but they aren’t USC, Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas, Stanford rich. Or even Miami or Ohio State. USC all by itself has almost as many billionaire alumni as the entire SEC combined sans Texas. That’s the kind of dick swinging you’re up against.

All this talk about billionaire alumni, I was curious who the players really were so I googled it. Various organizations have compiled lists so you'll see different numbers, but they are pretty similar. Here's a couple of lists from the wiki:
wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_universities_by_number_of_billionaire_alumni
Global Top 20 Universities by number of billionaire undergraduate alumni
(per Wealth-X 2014)
Listing only FBS schools
4. USC 16
T5. Stanford 14
8. UC Berkeley 12
T12. Michigan 10
T12. Univ. Texas system 10
15. Duke 9
Global Top 20 Universities by number of ultra-high net worth alumni (>$30M)
(per Wealth-X 2019)
Listing only FBS schools
University, Number of alumni, Combined wealth
2. Stanford, 5,580, $2,899B
8. Northwestern, 2,725, $389B
9. USC, 2,645, $548B
12. UC Berkeley, 2,385, $760B
15. Texas, 2,195, $463B
17. Notre Dame, 2,085, $179B
18. Miami, 1,970, $691B
20. UCLA, 1,975, $375B
Rearranging this list by Combined Wealth:
1. Stanford, $2,899B
2. UC Berkeley, $760B
3. Miami, $691B
4. USC, $548B
5. Texas, $463B
6. Northwestern, $389B
7. UCLA, $375B
8. Notre Dame, $179B
If only Stanford and Berkeley alumni cared about football!
I always laugh when people equate UC Berkeley with the ultra-liberal politics of the City of Berkeley. UC Berkeley alumni are right up there with the Ivy League and Stanford in accumulating wealth. Unfortunately Berkeley and Stanford alumni care as much about football as the Ivy League grads.

The only thing that matters is if the alumni are donating to the football program. Smu or whomever could literally have one person donate more than everyone else

SMU raised $100 million in seven days in order to join the ACC…

I assume the only team you think in the ACC that belongs in thr playoffs is Miami? Why would you say they are better than undefeated BYU? If you compare the 2 schedules and teams they beat, BYU's looks slightly tougher.
