UCLA not scoring a field goal in over 10 minutes is the perfect way for the final Big Ten team to bow out of the tournament

So in international basketball, if I recall correctly, some teams used to foul down 1. One of the most bizarre things sports wise I can remember hearing.

Need more context. Were international rules that different?

Yea honestly before the shot went in I was like “what the frick are they doing?” That shot down 1 didn’t seem like the smartest decision but it worked so that’s all that matters.

Jesus Christ what a game. I had UCLA playing Bama in the title game, so frick me, but damn that was a ride!

Same here.

I'm not saying they beat Gonzaga, but UCLA was missing two key defensive players. For a team that relies on defense, that's big.

Still, they are just a tough team under Cronin. You hate to see Jaime Jaquez leave. He always looked stoned. He didn't always show a ton of emotion. But that guy has been clutch his entire UCLA career.

Even if UCLA would have been able to win last night, UConn is rolling. Before the tournament started UConn was one of the 8 or so teams (including UCLA) that met the KenPom formula to be a National Champion. They have looked the part thus far.

UConn has been as impressive as any team in this tournament. They look like they got bored in the middle of the season and flipped a switch when the games mattered again.

Wasn't that the same play that Villanova ran to beat UNC with? Just UCLA did not pressure it and it was same type of play they used to beat UCLA in Final 4 wasn't it or was Suggs shot more off the dribble from an inbound? I know it was tied when Suggs made his shot.

Looks that way, mi amigo.

Gonzaga ran Villanova’s famous play to get Julian Strawther a clean look. What a finish.

Suggs play wasn’t drawn up. He sort of frantically took it out and heaved it

I think ucla packed in anticipating they’d try to get to the rim

12 seconds down by 1 it seemed logical but they went for the pull up 3. Huge shot

Equally impressive was the quality of the look ucla managed to get Campbell at the very end with just 1.1

Gonzaga beat BYU this year on the same play.

Still can’t believe UCLA let them bring the ball up court uncontested.

You aren’t going over the ball screen 30 ft from the rim. The defense was fine, just a great(lucky?) shot

That was a great play design.

It was the Villanova play. But the shot was from about 5 feet deeper. If you told Mick Cronin before the game he was going to be up ONE with 6 seconds to go and the best shot Gonzaga could get would be nearly a 30 foot 3 pointer from a guy who (although a very good shooter) was 2-7 from deep to that point, he would take it. Just a big shot by the Gonzaga kid.

That was the Bryce Drew play. Unfortunately for UCLA the initial catch by the passer was about 5 feet too deep for a REALLY good look.

UCLA and Gonzaga should start playing ever year. It's turned into a really good rivalry.

Gonzaga is deep in UCLA's head at this point. Both teams know who is going to win the game whenever they step on the floor. Has UCLA beaten them since the 2006 tournament game?
